🚀 Houston Rockets -5.5 | Game 1 vs Los Angeles Lakers
The Rockets are the right side here and the Lakers' injury situation is the story of this series opener. Both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves went down in a 43-point loss to Oklahoma City on April 1 and missed the final five games of the regular season. Neither has been cleared heading into Game 1. Without their two best players, the Lakers are asking LeBron James to carry an offense against a Houston team that has been a top-five defensive unit for the second consecutive year and leads the entire NBA in rebounding at 48.1 per game.
The Rockets are not just winning because of what the Lakers are missing. Kevin Durant averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in his first season in Houston. Alperen Sengun posted 20.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Amen Thompson added 17.7 points per game and plays at an All-Defensive level. This is a complete roster with the best offensive player in the series if Doncic is out, elite rebounding that will dominate the glass, and a defense built to make life miserable on the perimeter. The Rockets closed the season on an eight-game winning streak and come in locked in and healthy. Back Houston -5.5 to set the tone in Game 1.
🦅 Atlanta Hawks +5.5 | Game 1 at New York Knicks
The Knicks are comfortable favorites here with a 30-11 record at Madison Square Garden, but the number is too wide for a Hawks team that was competitive all three times these teams played this season. New York edged the season series 2-1, but Atlanta actually had a +6 point differential across those three games. The margin was never comfortable for the Knicks even at home, and the Hawks played their best basketball of the season in the final stretch after the Trae Young trade reshuffled the offense around Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
New York will have Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, and MSG is a genuine homecourt advantage. However, Atlanta is faster, plays at a pace that disrupts what the Knicks want to do defensively, and features two offensive leads in Johnson and Alexander-Walker who command attention on every possession. The final regular-season meeting on April 6 went down to the wire, and there is no reason to expect this one to be a blowout. The Hawks are the right side at plus-the-number in a series most analysts project as the most competitive first-round matchup in the East. Take Atlanta +5.5 to cover in Game 1.
🃏 Nikola Jokic Over 9.5 Assists | Nuggets vs Timberwolves Game 1
Jokic just became the first player in NBA history to lead the league in both assists and rebounds per game in the same season, finishing with 10.7 assists per game in 2026. The line here is set a full assist below his season average, which means the books are essentially asking you to bet that Jokic performs below his baseline in a playoff opener against a team he has dominated all year.
Against the Timberwolves this season, Jokic averaged 11.3 assists across four regular-season meetings. On Christmas Day alone, he had 15 assists in a 142-138 overtime win. Minnesota does not have a single defender capable of checking him one-on-one, and the Timberwolves' defensive scheme forces them to collapse on him in the paint, which is exactly what opens his passing lanes. Jokic thrives when defenses commit extra attention because his read-and-react game is the best in the sport. He matched his career high with 34 triple-doubles this season. In a home opener against a familiar opponent who cannot stop him, Over 9.5 Assists is a bet on Jokic being Jokic.
🎯 Nickeil Alexander-Walker Over 20.5 Points | Hawks vs Knicks Game 1
Alexander-Walker had a career year in his first season in Atlanta, averaging 20.8 points, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.2 made threes per game while shooting 39.1 percent from deep. He is a legitimate Most Improved Player candidate and the first player since 2014-15 to increase his scoring average by 10 or more points and cross the 20-point threshold in the same season. The line of 20.5 is set right at Alexander-Walker's season average, which means this is not asking for an outlier performance.
Since the Trae Young trade, Alexander-Walker has operated as a co-primary option alongside Jalen Johnson, which means the scoring opportunities are not going away in the playoffs. In the Hawks' most recent win over the Knicks, he put up a performance that rattled the Garden and proved he can handle the moment on the road. The Knicks will dedicate significant defensive attention to Johnson, and that is exactly where Alexander-Walker makes his living off the catch-and-shoot and off-ball movement. With a toe injury that kept him out of the regular-season finale already behind him, he is expected to be full-go for Game 1. Back him to cash this number he has already been hitting at a near-average clip all season.
