NBA Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 11/6
Our NBA best bets for Friday are the 76ers -2.5 in Cleveland and Timberwolves vs. Pelicans Over 230.5. On the prop side, we're featuring LeBron James Over 13.5 rebounds plus assists and Kyrie Irving Over 21.5 points, with more player props listed below. Shop around before you bet.
76ers vs. Cavaliers Prediction: Friday, 11/6
Pick: 76ers -2.5
Philadelphia's defense travels. The 76ers allow 103.1 points per 100 possessions, third-best in the NBA, according to ESPN's Hollinger team stats, while Cleveland ranks in the bottom half defensively at 110.9.
The 76ers also protect the ball better than almost anyone. Their 11.5 turnover ratio is the second-lowest in the league, which matters against a Cleveland team that wants to run at a 103.9 pace. LeBron James has been a stabilizing force, posting at least 15 rebounds plus assists in six of seven games, and he had 10 rebounds and eight assists in Detroit on Wednesday.
The risk is Cleveland's offense, which ranks eighth at 113.8 points per 100 possessions, and Philadelphia's 47.2% rebound rate, which sits near the bottom of the league. But with the 76ers healthier and better defensively, laying 2.5 on the road is a fair price. 76ers -2.5 is our first of Friday's NBA best bets.
Timberwolves vs. Pelicans Prediction: Friday, 11/6
Pick: Over 230.5
Pace is the driver here. New Orleans plays at a 104.7 pace, tied for third-fastest in the NBA, and Minnesota also ranks in the top 10 at 103.1. Both teams create possessions, and more possessions mean more chances to push this total.
The Pelicans' defense also helps. New Orleans allows 109.9 points per 100 possessions, while Minnesota's offense ranks seventh at 114.1. The risk is Minnesota's defense, which is the second-best in the league at 103.0 allowed per 100 possessions, and Anthony Edwards remains out.
Even so, two top-10 pace teams meeting in New Orleans give this game plenty of scoring opportunities. Over 230.5 rounds out our game picks among today's NBA best bets.
Best NBA Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 11/6
LeBron James Over 13.5 Rebounds + Assists
James has been one of the most dependable combo-stat plays in the NBA. He's averaging 7.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 33.1 minutes, and he's posted 16, 15, 15, 17, 16, and 18 rebounds plus assists in six of his seven games. The lone miss, a seven rebounds-plus-assists night against Detroit on Oct. 25, came with Philadelphia missing both Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe.
His minutes are remarkably stable, with every appearance landing between 31 and 34, which takes a lot of the variance out of this line. He's also coming off 10 rebounds and eight assists in Detroit on Wednesday, the kind of balanced night that shows he can clear this number even when one category runs cold. With Embiid on a minutes restriction, James spends extended stretches as both the primary rebounder and the primary initiator.
The matchup adds possessions. Cleveland plays at a 103.9 pace and Philadelphia at 102.6, so this game should feature more trips than the average NBA contest, and the Cavaliers' 50.5% rebound rate is right at league average. In a 230.5-total game that should stay within a couple of possessions, James has a clear path to his 15-plus norm.
Kyrie Irving Over 21.5 Points
Irving is rounding into form. He's averaging 22.7 points on 47.5% shooting and 38.2% from three, and his last two games have been his best of the season: 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting against Houston and 29 points with five threes in San Antonio on Wednesday.
The workload is what makes this number attractive. Irving played 35 and 36 minutes in those two games after logging 24 to 27 minutes in three of his first four, and he's taken 19 and 27 shots in his last two outings. He's also a 90.5% free-throw shooter, so any trips to the line convert efficiently, and Cooper Flagg's presence keeps defenses from loading up on him.
Utah gives him a favorable setup. The Jazz allow 112.4 points per 100 possessions, which ranks in the bottom 10, and they play at a 102.5 pace. The risk is the 7.5-point spread, since a comfortable Dallas lead could cut into his fourth-quarter minutes, but at his current volume, Irving can do most of his damage before that becomes a factor.
More player props we like on Friday's slate:
- Isaiah Hartenstein Over 10.5 Rebounds: Hartenstein is averaging 10.1 rebounds, eighth in the NBA, and has grabbed at least 12 in five of his last six games with Chet Holmgren out.
- Tyler Herro Over 19.5 Points: Herro is averaging 22.3 points and has cleared this line in six of eight games, and Raptors vs. Bucks features two of the faster paces in the league.
