NBA Best Bets Today, 1/16: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Friday
The first NBA game in Germany lived up to the hype with a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the “home” team. The Memphis Grizzlies started out hot, but the Orlando Magic charged back and controlled the fourth quarter. The hometown Wagner brothers both played, but it was Paolo Banchero who took charge for the Magic. Desmond Bane fell short of his average point scores, ruining the first Berlin best bet.
Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets were stymied by the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was a 20-point beatdown, and the final score was 111 - 91. The worst part of it was that Durant got nowhere near his point line of 24.5. Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons did deliver, though. They won a close match against the Phoenix Suns 108 - 105, and Cunningham delivered on his prediction of over 9.5 assists.
There are six games today, with two nationally televised games on ESPN, and the first one is a rematch from a couple of days ago. It just so happens to feature our first best bet of today.
NBA Best Bets Today, 1/16: Picks, Predictions & Player Props - Friday
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers: Friday 1/16
Game Time: 7:00 PM ET | TV: ESPN | Location: Xfinity Mobile Arena | Odds: PHI -2.5 | O/U 233.5
- Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers Moneyline (+120 on BETMGM Sportsbook) 2.0 U
The Cleveland Cavaliers were underdogs against the Philadelphia 76ers two days ago, but they went on to dominate the 76ers. The final score was 133 - 107 in favor of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Darius Garland was injured in the match and will be unavailable for today’s game. However, that does not change our opinion about the outcome of this game.
The Cavaliers are underdogs once again, but the expectation is for them to win. Cleveland played with intensity; they played great in the paint, and that limited Joel Embiid’s upside. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen have the ability to be the best frontcourt in the Association, but they do not always play like it. They should play inspired against a former MVP today.
Donovan Mitchell is playing some of his best basketball of the season, too, and he’s virtually unguardable when he plays like that. He was the game’s leading scorer two days ago, and could be once again. He is the X-factor; if he plays well, this will be an easy victory for Cleveland.
The Cavaliers are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, and Philadelphia is in fifth. However, the 76ers are only 0.5 games ahead of Cleveland, and should the Cavaliers win, they would jump ahead of Philadelphia. There is more to this game than meets the eye, as this could determine playoff seeding due to tie-breakers. Put two units on the Cavaliers to win at Xfinity Mobile Arena in back-to-back games.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Houston Rockets: Friday 1/16
Game Time: 9:30 PM ET | TV: ESPN | Location: Toyota Center | Odds: HOU -4.5 | O/U 222.5
When looking at bets yesterday, this game popped out due to Houston playing against the defending champions last night. Meanwhile, Minnesota was able to rest, but they will once again be without Anthony Edwards. Not only is he their best player and their highest point scorer, but he is also the Timberwolves’ emotional leader.
He is averaging 28.9 points and 3.8 assists per game. He missed the last match, but Minnesota was able to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks easily. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo said that it was the worst game in his NBA career, the home fans were booing the Bucks, and Antetokounmpo gave the fans grief in return.
The Timberwolves are not playing a terrible Eastern Conference team, but a team they are only 2.5 games ahead of in the Western Conference. Houston is playing in the second of back-to-back games, and Minnesota will be without their best player. The Rockets play good defense and are attempting to get back on track. Put a unit on the under in this match.
NBA Prop Bet Today, 1/16
- Trey Murphy III 25+ Points (+136 on FanDuel Sportsbook) 2.0 U
Trey Murphy III has been ballin’ out this season, but it has gone unnoticed. The Pelicans have the worst record in the Western Conference, and they are playing against the team with the worst record in the Eastern Conference, actually, all of the Association. The Indiana Pacers. Indiana allows 118.3 points per game, and Murphy has found ways to exploit opposing teams' defense.
Murphy has scored 27 or more points in five of his last six games. He also scored over thirty points in four of those games. He has an average of just 22.2 points per game, but the Pelicans have realized that he is the best player on their team. And that he needs to have the ball in his hands for New Orleans to have a chance to win.
We rarely get the opportunity to see the two worst teams in the Association play each other. Those moments should be cherished. To celebrate the occasion, a teased-up point line is suggested. After all, opportunity favors the bold. So put two units on a teased-up line of Trey Murphy and do it on FanDuel. The odds are much better for the teased-up line compared to other sportsbooks.
