MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks September 20

Juan Soto, San Diego Padres - HIGHER than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Yes, Chase Anderson just carved up the Giants at Coors Field, but he won’t be so lucky in this matchup, especially when Juan Soto enters the batter’s box. Left-handed bats have posted a .496 SLG, .372 wOBA, and 1.99 HR/9 against Anderson here in 2023. During Soto’s current eight-game hit streak, he’s slashing .452/.514/.903 with four home runs, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, and he’s surpassed this line in all but one of those games. Soto has hit right-handed pitching at a .277 clip this year, not to mention a .964 OPS and .269 ISO. Only the Atlanta Braves have a higher implied run total than the Padres today, so in a game where the Padres should score some runs, Soto’s name should take center stage. I like the Padres offense as a whole tonight, with Soto being my preferred target for player props, especially at this line of 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI.

Ryan O’Hearn, Baltimore Orioles - HIGHER than 1.5 Total Bases

Yes, O’Hearn had the five-hit game the other night, but he now has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games, and for the month of September overall, he’s slashing .375/.375/.625 with a .423 wOBA! In the month of September, he’s slashing 412/.412/.686 with a 1.098 OPS, .275 ISO, and 204 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and guess who he gets today? I’m glad you asked! O’Hearn and the Orioles get Houston right-hander Cristian Javier, which is significant, because not only does Javier have a 6.28 ERA and 2.20 HR/9 over his last six starts, but left-handed hitters have been his kryptonite this season. For the 2023 season, lefties have a .282 average, .497 SLG, and .362 wOBA against Javier. Over his last eight starts, dating back to the beginning of August, lefties have a .284/.369/.514 slash line against Javier, not to mention a .377 wOBA. O’Hearn is swinging a hot bat in the middle of the Baltimore lineup, and in a matchup that is advantageous for him, we’ll bank on a big day from the 30-year-old lefty.
