After looking at the board and sifting through the data, my best bets of the day on Underdog Fantasy feature a couple of right-handers in Mike Clevinger of the Chicago White Sox and Luis Castillo of the Seattle Mariners taking on the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets respectively. We also take a look at San Diego Padres southpaw Blake Snell against the San Francisco Giants. As always, don't forget to check out the latest MLB weather report and the confirmed MLB lineups when placing those MLB betting picks. Without further ado, let's dive into the top MLB player picks on Underdog Fantasy for Saturday, September 2nd.

Mike Clevinger, Chicago White Sox - HIGHER than 5.5 Strikeouts

Clevinger scares the you know what out of me when entrusting him with one of my coveted best bets of the day, but you have to trust the numbers! Over the last two weeks, the Tigers have the second-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, coming in at a whopping 30 percent! Additionally, they are only hitting .219 with a lowly .294 wOBA. Clevinger is coming off a monster 10 strikeout performance against the Oakland Athletics, and he now has six or more strikeouts in three of his last four outings, posting an 11.1 percent swinging strike rate. He’s done a great job of getting ahead in the count of late, and furthermore, he has a 2.44 ERA and 24.7 percent strikeout rate when pitching at home this season (9 GS).

Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners - HIGHER than 6.5 Strikeouts

Castillo at home is one of the safer bets in the game, but he finds himself on the road in this matchup, but I’m still on this player prop for the Seattle right-hander. He has seven or more strikeouts in five of his last eight starts, including in three of his last five road outings. There’s a lot of swing-and-miss in this New York Mets lineup, and over the last two weeks, they have struck out 29.5 percent of the time against right-handed pitching. That is the third worst mark in Major League Baseball during that time frame! He’s completed six innings in eight straight starts, and if he can get through the sixth and into the seventh, I have no doubt that he can’t rack up the strikeouts against a strikeout prone Mets lineup.

Blake Snell, San Diego Padres - HIGHER than 8 Strikeouts

This was at 7.5 earlier in the day, but while writing, it jumped to eight. Oh well, we’re still taking it anyway, because the matchup is too good. Since August 1, the Giants have the second-highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching in Major League Baseball, though they do have a respectable .275 average during that stretch. However, Snell is a tough, tough opponent, and he has a 32.6 percent strikeout rate at home this season. He’s displayed a high strikeout floor of late, posting at least seven strikeouts in five of his last six, recording at least eight strikeouts in four starts. He recorded 11 strikeouts against the Giants earlier this year, and in three starts against San Francisco in 2022, he had at least eight strikeouts in each outing. The BvP numbers from this Giants lineup against Snell aren’t great, giving me further optimism for a big day from the San Diego southpaw.
