MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks May 26

Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies – OVER 0.5 Singles

While the Philadelphia Phillies offense has struggled in recent weeks, Bryce Harper has been doing his part. The two-time MVP is hitting .347 this season and boasts a .417 average over the past seven games. He’s hit safely in nine of the past 10 games and in 16 of 20 contests this year. We all know Harper has power, but he also hits plenty of singles as an all-around good hitter. Last year, 55% of his total hits were singles. This year, 17 of his 26 hits have been single-baggers (65%). Harper has also hit nine singles in the past 10 games, including two last night. Left-hander Jared Shuster will start for the Atlanta Braves tonight and though the left-lefty matchup isn’t ideal here, it’s not like Shuster is a stud pitcher or anything. He’s rocking a 5.49 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over four starts thus far. Let’s back Harper to hit another single tonight.

George Kirby, Seattle Mariners – OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

We missed on Logan Gilbert’s strikeout prop yesterday, but let’s go right back to the Seattle Mariners pitching staff tonight. George Kirby gets a very favorable matchup here against a struggling Pittsburgh Pirates offense. Since the start of May, the Pirates have a 26.0% strikeout rate (3rd-worst in MLB) and a .263 wOBA (2nd-worst) against right-handed pitching. Those numbers are notably worse than their season-long 22.8% K rate and .307 wOBA vs. righties. On the road this month, Pittsburgh has the highest strikeout rate in the league at 29.6%. Kirby should have some success against this subpar lineup. The Mariners’ right-hander has gone over 5.5 strikeouts only four times in nine starts this season, but all four of those over’s have come in his past five outings. He’s been strong lately with a 2.28 ERA and a 23:3 K:BB ratio across four May starts thus far. Kirby’s impressive 2.62 ERA this year is also backed up by a 2.69 FIP and 2.98 xERA.

Jorge Soler, Miami Marlins – OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Betting on Jorge Soler's props lately has been a pretty profitable strategy. The Miami Marlins slugger has now homered in three straight games and in four of the past five contests. Soler also has 10 home runs in the month of May and is hitting .400 over the past seven games. Though some of the recent numbers are inflated after playing a four-game series at Coors Field, he can still stay hot tonight in a favorable spot. Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers has a 4.87 ERA and 1.43 WHIP this season. Meanwhile, Soler is crushing left-handed pitching with a .400 BA and 1.539 OPS against southpaws so far. He’s gone over 1.5 combined hits+runs+RBI in nine of the past 15 games.
