MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 28
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels – OVER 0.5 Runs
Every day we see something ridiculous from Shohei Ohtani that makes you appreciate his greatness even more. Last night, the AL MVP frontrunner smacked two home runs while also striking out 10 against the Chicago White Sox. Whether it’s on the mound or at the plate, Ohtani is dominating Major League Baseball right now – so let’s grab the low-hanging fruit and target one of his hitter player props tonight. Over the past 15 games, here’s Ohtani’s insane stat line offensively: .404 BA, .507 OBP, 10 homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, and 13 walks. You could go in many different directions with Ohtani’s props at this point, but we’re looking at the runs scored tonight. The Los Angeles Angels star has scored a run in five straight games and 15 of the last 17 contests. Of course, a lot of those runs are due to his own home runs. Even so, it’s tough to ignore this recent run-scoring production. Ohtani has some favorable BvP numbers going for him tonight. He’s 7-for-23 (.304) with three homers against White Sox starter Lucas Giolito, who has a 4.64 ERA on the road this season.
Kodai Senga, New York Mets – OVER 6.5 Strikeouts
The Milwaukee Brewers offense has given us plenty of MLB strikeout prop overs this season, so let’s go right back to that matchup tonight. Kodai Senga will be the latest pitcher to benefit from a strikeout-prone Milwaukee lineup. The Brewers’ 25% K rate vs right-handed pitching this season is the fourth-worst mark in the majors. Over the past two weeks, that strikeout rate vs righties is even worse at 28.9% (second-worst in MLB). The Brew Crew offense also has just a .275 wOBA and .203 BA vs righty pitchers over this recent span. As for Senga, he’s gone over 6.5 strikeouts in exactly half of his starts this season (7 of 14). The New York Mets’ righty will benefit from being at home tonight, though. Senga has a 2.52 ERA and 1.09 WHIP at home this year while averaging seven strikeouts per home start. He’s gone over 6.5 K’s in three of his last four home outings, including some impressive strikeout performances against dangerous lineups: 12 K vs Rays, 9 K vs Phillies, and 8 K vs Cardinals. Let’s back Senga at home here against a Brewers team that’s striking out a lot.
