MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 27

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Jr., Miami Marlins – OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

After being out since mid-May, Jazz Chisholm Jr. Jr. is finally back for the Miami Marlins. So, why not jump on his player props right away? The Marlins’ centerfielder has been out with a turf toe injury but Miami activated him ahead of tonight’s game. He should be batting leadoff and starting at centerfield for the Marlins in his first game back. Chisholm wasn’t having the best season before getting hurt, hitting just .229 with a .694 OPS. He did steal 14 bases in the first 39 games, though. In four Triple-A rehab games before tonight, Chisholm went 3-for-12 with four walks, three RBI, two runs scored, and one steal. Despite the pedestrian numbers, we’re backing the Marlins’ star to return in a big way. He’ll face Boston Red Sox right-hander Garrett Whitlock, who has a 4.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP this season. The lefty-hitting Chisholm could get a hit or two in this matchup and also have decent run-scoring opportunities with Jorge Soler, Luis Arraez, and Bryan De La Cruz hitting behind him.

Tyler Wells, Baltimore Orioles – OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

When looking at strikeout props tonight, Tyler Wells stands out as it seems a tad too low. The Baltimore Orioles right-hander has gone over 5.5 strikeouts in seven of his last eight starts and six of eight home outings this season. He’s averaging 6.1 K’s per start since moving into the O’s rotation early in April. Wells is in the midst of a solid season for Baltimore with a 3.22 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. He’s also been better at home with a 2.52 ERA while averaging over a strikeout per inning. Tonight he faces the Cincinnati Reds, who have been a dangerous offense lately and tough to fade right now. However, the Reds do have a 25% strikeout rate over the past week vs right-handed pitching despite lighting up the scoreboard. A big factor for tonight’s game is that yesterday’s Reds/Orioles battle was disrupted by a rain delay. It limited Baltimore starter Cole Irvin to three innings and forced bullpen usage early. The O’s could be looking at Wells to go six or seven innings with a pitch count sniffing 100, which gives him more K upside.
