MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 22

Alex Wood, San Francisco Giants – UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts

It’s been an up-and-down season for Alex Wood and he could run into trouble against the San Diego Padres today. We’re targeting the under for Wood’s strikeout prop. The San Francisco Giants left-hander has been under 4.5 K’s in five of eight starts this season and he had exactly five punchouts in those outings that went over. Wood has just 34 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched so far and he’s averaging 4.1 K’s per start. Today, he has to face a Padres offense that’s been lighting up lefties lately. San Diego has .384 wOBA and .252 ISO against southpaws over the past two weeks. Plus, the Padres have a low 15.6% K rate and a high 11.5% walk rate vs lefties in this recent stretch. This lineup is filled with tough outs now that Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, Manny Machado, and Xander Bogaerts are all healthy at the same time and getting on base plenty.

Domingo German, New York Yankees – OVER 1.5 Walks Allowed

Usually, we look at strikeout props for pitchers. Today, we’re going off the board a bit with a walks prop for Domingo German. The New York Yankees starter has allowed over 1.5 walks in eight of 13 starts this season, including seven of his past 10 outings. German’s 8.2% walk rate and 3.0 BB/9 this year are his highest since 2018. He’ll face a Seattle Mariners lineup that has a 9.4% walk rate against right-handed pitching this season, the 7th-highest in the majors. Over the past two weeks, the Mariners’ walk rate is up to 11.2% vs righties (2nd-highest). Although the Seattle offense is still below-average in wOBA, BA, runs scored and other advanced stats, the Mariners’ hitters are still drawing plenty of walks. Back German to issue at least two free passes tonight.
