MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks June 21

Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres – OVER 1.5 Total Bases

After going through a mini-slump last month, Fernando Tatis Jr. has picked it up lately while hitting like the All-Star player that we’re used to. The San Diego Padres outfielder is batting .423 (11-for-26) over the past seven games and .386 (22-for-57) over the past 15 games. He’s gone over 1.5 total bases in 13 of 18 games in the month of June, including nine of the past 11. Tatis has also hit safely in 15 of his last 18 contests. Tonight, the San Francisco Giants are using Ryan Walker as an opener and then lefty Sean Manaea presumably as the bulk reliever. Tatis is hitting .320 with a 1.164 OPS vs left-handed pitching this season. Plus, the wind is blowing out at 20 mph in San Fran tonight. Take the over on Tatis’ total bases prop.

Jhony Brito, New York Yankees – UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts

Simply put, Jhony Brito is not a big strikeout pitcher and this prop is a bit too lofty. The New York Yankees’ rookie right-hander has just 30 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched this season for a poor 16.9% K rate. Brito has been down at Triple-A over the past month but is getting the start tonight for the Yankees  It’s not like Brito struck out a lot of hitters in the minors either. He had a 17.2% strikeout rate at Triple-A this year, not to mention an 18.5% K rate last season at the same level. Brito has gone under 4.5 strikeouts in seven of 10 outings this season, including three of four home starts. The only pause we have is this favorable matchup against a strikeout-prone Seattle Mariners offense. The Mariners are a bottom-5 team in the majors in terms of K’s vs right-handed pitching this season. Even so, we’re fading Brito because of his own poor swing-and-miss tendencies.
