Happy Friday y’all! It may be the end of the work week for some, but with Major League Baseball action on the slate, we all get to enjoy the work of dissecting the MLB player props over at Underdog Fantasy. When looking at the full board of player props across the baseball landscape, there were two in particular that jumped out at me. The first of which was José Abreu going up against Glenn Otto, as the Texas right-hander has struggled of late, and Abreu is on the best side of his splits in this one. The Chicago White Sox will be one of the more popular MLB DFS stacks today, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see pieces of this lineup sprinkled in amongst the majority of MLB DFS lineups. Eric Lauer of the Milwaukee Brewers finds himself in a good matchup, pitching against a strikeout-prone Reds team in his home park. I even added a bonus prop that I really like, involving one of Pittsburgh’s top prospects who has found his groove of late. Without further ado, here are my favorite MLB player props at Underdog Fantasy for Friday, August 5.

MLB Player Props Underdog Fantasy August 5

José Abreu OVER 6.5 Fantasy Points

Abreu is hitting .333 over his last 27 at-bats with three home runs, eight RBI, and five runs scored. He should be a key piece of a Chicago lineup tonight that should fare quite well against Glenn Otto. Abreu has been a beast on the road this season, posting a .356 average and 1.002 OPS. The Texas right-hander has a 5.50 ERA on the year, and over his last seven starts, he’s 0-5 with a 7.11 ERA and 1.42 HR/9. Otto has some pretty gnarly splits, too, besides his home/road marks. Lefties are hitting just .194 against him, but right-handed hitters are hitting .315 with a .399 wOBA. Specifically, at home, righties are hitting .373 against him with a .473 wOBA.

Oneil Cruz OVER 6.5 Fantasy Points

Cruz has a .231 batting average and .717 OPS on the road this season, and when Cruz is facing a right-hander, he has my attention. Six of his eight home runs on the year have come against righties, and when you look at all of his extra-base hits, 10 of his 14 extra-base hits have come against righties. Cruz has hit safely in four straight games, including homering twice, while notching two walks, five RBI, and four runs scored. Baltimore’s Dean Kremer has a 4.26 ERA at home this year, and while righties have had more success against him compared to lefties, Cruz only needs one swing to surpass this total. Lastly, Kremer has a 6.94 ERA and 1.93 HR/9 over his last five starts, and his ground ball rate has plummeted of late. I love Cruz’s outlook this evening.

Eric Lauer OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

When the Reds are away from their home park, look to attack them. When the Reds are facing a southpaw, look to attack them. Eric Lauer, a talented lefty, gets to face this Cincinnati team in his home park, and the Reds have the third-highest strikeout rate against left-handers over the last two weeks, coming in at a whopping 29 percent! For the 2022 season as a whole, they have the sixth-highest strikeout rate against lefties! At home this year, Lauer has a 2.85 ERA with a 25.7 percent strikeout rate. The strikeouts have been down a bit for Lauer of late, but I love his outlook on the best side of his splits against a team that struggles against lefties and on the road.
