MLB Player Props Underdog Fantasy August 4

Rafael DeversOVER 1.5 Total Bases

When breaking down matchups we like, we don’t generally start with a lefty hitter facing a lefty pitcher. Well, that doesn’t apply here. Rafael Devers has an elite matchup against Kansas City Royals starter Kris Bubic tonight. Bubic has pitched in the majors since 2020 and, despite it being a semi-small sample, left-handed hitters have a .302/.413/.568 slash line against him for his entire three-year career. Bubic’s K-rate is six percent lower against LHH than RHH, he allows OVER two HR/9, and if you were looking for any sort of bad luck, it doesn’t exist considering he’s pitched to a 6.04 xFIP against LHH.

When we take a look at the other side of this match-up, Devers does serious damage against southpaws himself. He’s hitting .303 this year with an .842 OPS, .202 ISO, and .363 wOBA against them this year. This is a great spot for the Boston Red Sox third baseman to have a monster game.

Alec BohmOVER 1.5 Total Bases

In a season that started with a middle finger to his own fans, Alec Bohm has looked incredible offensively for the Phillies lately. In the month of July alone, Bohm hit .434 and had 33 hits in just 20 games. He’s not a player who has massive power, but that hasn’t mattered considering how good he’s been at the dish.

Bohm's opponent today is Washington Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino, who hasn’t exactly had success as a starting pitcher this year. He had a 2.03 ERA as a reliever but a 4.95 ERA as a starter. He's allowed 2.48 HR/9 and a .295 AVG as a starter as well. Right-handed batters have been especially damaging against Espino as he’s allowed a .514 SLG%, .360 wOBA, and 2.06 HR/9. This is a perfect matchup for Bohm.
