Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks - Best Picks & Plays for August 24: George Kirby and Shane McClanahan Rack Up Strikeouts
When looking at the available MLB player props over at Underdog Fantasy for August 24, it was a trio of pitcher props that jumped off the board. George Kirby has been solid of late, especially in the strikeout department, and his line is very advantageous for us to exploit, given that Washington has had issues with striking out over the past couple of weeks. Additionally, American League Cy Young Candidate Shane McClanahan’s strikeout line of 6.5 is lower than many would expect, likely because his strikeout numbers have dipped of late. However, this Angels team stinks, and they strike out a ton. McClanahan has been dominant at home this season, and we all know that I love to target good pitchers against this Los Angeles Angels squad. Lastly, I include one lean that I have about an American League pitcher on the best side of his splits this afternoon. All three of these players likely garner some attention for your MLB DFS lineups, so why not target their player props, too? Here are my favorite MLB player props and picks on Underdog Fantasy for Wednesday, August 24.
Underdog Fantasy MLB Picks August 24
George Kirby OVER 5.5 Strikeouts
I love this line for Kirby, especially considering that he’s found a bit of a strikeout groove of late. He has seven or more strikeouts in three of his last four starts, and five or more punch outs in all but two of his last outings. He has a 9.87 K/9 and 25.7 percent strikeout rate at home this season, both of which are better than his marks on the road in 2022, and he has a great matchup against the Nationals. Earlier in the year, you didn’t really want to take an over for strikeout props against the Nationals, but that has changed of late, as they have the seventh-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks,
Shane McClanahan OVER 6.5 Strikeouts
McClanahan’s strikeout numbers have wavered a bit, but in a good matchup, I’ll exploit this line. DraftKings Sportsbook has heavy juice on the over here, and the Angels have the 11th-highest strikeout rate against southpaws over the last two weeks. For the 2022 season as a whole, the Angels have the sixth-highest strikeout rate. I mentioned his strikeout rate has wavered of late, but his O-Swing rate and swinging strike rate are right on par with his marks for the entire season. The Tampa Bay southpaw and AL Cy Young contender has an 11.22 K/9 and 31.8 percent strikeout rate at home this season, and let us not forget that he posted at least seven strikeouts in all but one of his first 17 starts of the season. McClanahan is set to carve up this weak Los Angeles lineup.
Other Lean:
- Cole Irvin OVER 18.5 Pitching Outs (MIA has .164 AVG, .252 wOBA, and 62 wRC+ vs. LHP over last two weeks, and Irvin has at least 6.1 IP in in 4 of his last 6 home starts)
