MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks August 10

Wander Franco, Tampa Bay Rays – HIGHER than 1.5 Total Bases

After previously slumping in July, Wander Franco has lately looked a lot more like the All-Star we’re used to seeing at the plate. The Tampa Bay Rays shortstop has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games with a .419 BA, 1.304 OPS, and five home runs in this span. He also has five multi-hit games in this recent stretch. Look for Franco to keep swinging a hot bat in a favorable matchup tonight. St. Louis Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore has an 11.48 ERA, 2.10 WHIP, and .350 batting average against on the road this season. The left-hander is also allowing a .339 BA and .548 SLG to right-handed hitters. This benefits the switch-hitting Franco, who is batting .316 with a .506 SLG against lefty pitchers. The matchup here and his hot dat sets up perfectly for Franco to have another good hitting performance.

Patrick Corbin, Washington Nationals – HIGHER than 3.5 Earned Runs Allowed

Join us in celebrating Patrick Corbin day! The Washington Nationals left-hander is back on the mound tonight and he’ll have to face a hot Philadelphia Phillies offense on the road. There are a few props we could consider here, but let’s count on Corbin allowing at least four earned runs in this matchup. Corbin has struggled to a 5.03 ERA this season and his 6.34 xERA is even worse. On the road, the Nats starter has a 5.31 ERA and 6.49 FIP. He’s also coughed up 4+ earned runs in three of his last six outings coming into tonight. As for the Philadelphia offense, it’s mashing lefty pitchers lately with a .349 wOBA, 118 wRC+, .272 BA, and 11.2% walk rate over the past month in the split. The Phillies have scored 7+ runs in four of the past five games and just knocked around Washington lefty Mackenzie Gore for six earned runs last night.

A big factor is how bad Corbin has been against the Phillies, specifically. In his career against Philly, he’s compiled a 4.96 ERA (19 starts) with a terrible 7.30 career ERA at Citizens Bank Park (8 starts). While he’s yet to face them this season, check out Corbin’s numbers vs the Phillies last year: 11.74 ERA and 27 runs allowed (20 earned) over four starts with 11 earned runs in the two road outings. Going back further, he’s allowed 4+ earned runs in six of his last seven matchups vs the Phils. The cherry on top here is that a ton of Philly hitters have good career BvP numbers vs Corbin, including J.T. Realmuto, Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryson Stott
