Let's dive into the top MLB player picks on Underdog Fantasy for Tuesday, August 1st.

MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks August 1

Lance Lynn, Los Angeles Dodgers – HIGHER than 1.5 Walks Allowed

Lynn’s strikeout prop seems a bit inflated, but Oakland has struck out a ton this month (and this year) against right-handed pitching, but I think the real advantage here is with the walks. Lynn’s 8.4 percent walk rate this year would be his highest mark since 2018, and when you look at his starts in 2023, he has at least two walks in 16 of 21 starts! Furthermore, he has at least two walks in 10 of his last 12 outings! Wait, isn’t he facing Oakland tonight? He sure is, but did you know that in the month of July against right-handed pitching, the Oakland Athletics have the fifth-highest walk rate, coming in at 10.3 percent? Did you know the A’s have the seventh-highest walk rate in 2023 against right-handed pitching?

Jorge Soler, Miami Marlins – HIGHER than 7.5 Fantasy Points

I’m obligated to tell you that Soler is 2-for-6 with two home runs in his career against Ranger Suarez, so the BvP truthers can unite on that front! While Soler has a good track record against this particular lefty, Soler has just been great against all lefties this year, slashing .307/.411/.747 with a .440 ISO and 204 wRC+. He has a 1.200 OPS at home against a lefty this season and Soler will square off against Suarez who has been struggling a bit of late. Over his last five starts, Suarez has put forth a 6.11 ERA, 1.61 HR/9, and right-handed hitters in particular have a .337/.407/.516 slash line against him during this rough stretch for the Philadelphia southpaw.

Ozzie Albies, Atlanta Braves – HIGHER than 1.5 Total Bases

When a left-hander takes on the Atlanta Braves, Albies immediately enters the conversation. Not only does he have a .500 SLG over his last seven games, but for the year against southpaws, he’s hitting .381 with a .667 SLG, 1.062 OPS, .286 ISO, and .448 wOBA. At home against a lefty, he has a 1.272 OPS and .343 ISO. While Sandoval has been pitching a bit better of late, he has allowed a .369 SLG to right-handed hitters this season, and we can’t underestimate just how good Albies is against southpaws.
