MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks April 13

Bryson Stott, Philadelphia Phillies – OVER 0.5 Singles

While Jordan Walker is getting all the praise for his historic hitting streak to begin the season, Bryson Stott is also quietly red-hot at the plate. The Phillies’ second baseman has hit safely in all 12 games so far while batting .420 on the year. Stott isn’t just getting lucky either, as he has nine multi-hit games already and five straight coming into tonight. In regards to this prop for Stott to get just one single, the numbers are also in his favor. Only four of Stott’s 20 hits so far have gone for extra-bases while 16 were singles. Tonight’s matchup vs. Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo might scare you off, but Stott went 1-for-3 with a single against him just last week. Plus, the lefty-swinging Stott actually has a career .288 BA vs southpaws compared to a .242 BA vs righties.

Vince Velasquez, Pittsburgh Pirates – UNDER 4.0 Strikeouts

After going through a cold spell, the St. Louis Cardinals offense woke up at Coors Field this week with 19 combined runs in the three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. Let’s bank on the Cards staying hot at the plate in tonight’s home matchup against Vince Velasquez. This strikeout prop looks a touch too high for a pitcher who only had one and three Ks in his first two starts this season. Velasquez got knocked around by both the White Sox and Reds – two offenses with higher strikeout rates than the Cardinals. Expect the St. Louis lineup to make life difficult for Velasquez tonight. The Cards have strong numbers against right-handed pitching this year with a low 19.8% strikeout rate (7th-best in MLB), .349 wOBA (6th), .277 BA (5th), and 10.3% walk rate (12th). It’s hard to imagine Velasquez getting to four Ks or more in this matchup and he might even get bounced early if he runs into trouble.
