MLB Underdog Fantasy Top Picks April 12
Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers – OVER 6.5 Strikeouts
We targeted the San Francisco Giants lineup with Julio Urias on Monday and he came through with eight strikeouts. Let’s go back to the well with Clayton Kershaw tonight in the same matchup. The Giants have a league-worst 28.4% strikeout rate this season overall and against left-handed pitching, the K rate rises to a whopping 38.5%. Plus, San Francisco has a .245 wOBA (2nd-worst in MLB), a .193 batting average (4th-worst), and a 6.3% walk rate (8th-worst) against lefties this year. The last two southpaw starters to face the Giants have punched out eight (Urias) and nine (Kris Bubic). We should see Kershaw follow suit against his division rivals. The Dodgers’ ace had nine strikeouts in his season debut vs Arizona and then just four Ks against the Diamondbacks in his second start. Tonight, expect another higher-strikeout outing from Kershaw, who has good career numbers in San Francisco with a 1.60 ERA.
Matt Chapman, Toronto Blue Jays – OVER 9.5 Fantasy Points
It’s been pretty profitable to back Matt Chapman’s props this season – as we did yesterday – so let’s do it again on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays' third baseman is on fire at the plate to begin the season with a .477 batting average, .521 OBP, 15 RBI, and nine runs scored through 11 games. Most of the Toronto lineup is hitting well right now and Chapman is a nightly top performer in the cleanup spot. Expect Chapman and the Jays to keep it going against Detroit Tigers starter Eduardo Rodriguez, who's allowed seven runs, nine hits, and four walks through his first 10 innings pitched (two starts) so far this season. Plus, Chapman has a career .364 BA (4-for-11) with three RBI against Rodriguez.
