Fantasy Baseball 2025 Two-Start Pitchers & Streaming Starters - Week 23
A limited number of Fantasy Baseball 2025Two-Start Pitchers to opt to fill your rotation slots with for a double dose of fantasy goodness this week, unfortunately. As we head into the season’s final month, there will likely be less dual start hurlers appearing on the schedules, so it will be even more important to choose wisely from the middle tier and avoid those in the bottom group, at least in terms of relying on the any of the final group for two-starts (and maybe opting to shun them for any starts at all).
A fair number of Fantasy Baseball 2025 Streaming Starters options show up on the rotation schedules, fortunately, to allow some waiver wire action and the potential for finding a gem among those arms that are not highly owned in most leagues.
Please realize that these articles feature most recent rotation information available when the article is written, but that circumstances do change due to weather conditions, injuries and general craziness with managers. If a pitcher listed here as having two starts ends up with one (or perhaps none) in the upcoming week, apologies but this article is meant to provide analysis, it is up to the manager to set the lineups or rotations.

These nine SPs should be relied upon to provide good counting stats as well as not hurting and most likely improving your team’s ratio statistics. Could any of these hurlers stumble and provide less than ace performance? Naturally, but these are the SPs you can most rely upon to aid you in your quest for a fantasy championship, so plug them in and let them do their thing.

| Carmen Mlodzinski PIT | vs. Emmet Sheehan LAD | vs. Jacob Misiorowski MIL |
| Â | Tue 9/2 6:40 PM EDT | Sun 9/7 1:35 PM EDT |
Misiorowski was able to strike out double digit hitters in a 5.0 IP outing against the visiting Arizona hitters, which saw him pitch into through the fifth inning for the first time in five trips to toe the rubber. His tougher matchup in Week 23 comes at home, where he has been significantly more effective this season, making for a potentially profitable dual-start week.
Darvish had been pitching well prior to his most recent time on the hill, where he handed out four earned runs over 4.0 IP against the host Mariners, racking up a useful 3.00 ERA and impressive 0.67 WHIP over those 27.0 IP. He had also been striking out hitters at just over a K per inning rate, collecting 28 Ks in those five times on the bump. He has a couple of good matchups on tap, although the second outing does take place in the confines of Coors Field.
Messick has sparkled in his early MLB career, tossing a pair of quality starts (QS), including his most recent trip to the bump against the Rays. In that contest, he notched another half dozen Ks, while handing out just four hits and no walks. He possesses a stellar set of ratio stats: 0.66 ERA, 0.88 WHIP accumulated over an admittedly limited 13.2 IP as a big league SP. He heads out on the road for a pair of tough matchups, and it is anticipated that those superior ratios will suffer some negative regression, although despite an unsustainable 91.7% LOB rate, his peripheral metrics (again, limited sample size) do not scream that he is pitching over his head or a recipient of unrepeatable luck.
Lorenzen has a pair of home contests on the schedule for Week 23, which plays into his strength, as evidenced by his season-long home/road splits. His peripheral metrics indicate that he has been perhaps a tad unfortunate in his current streak of no-decisions, and perhaps this pair of home games will help to reverse his fortunes on the mound.
Martin has won two of his last three starts, and has allowed three or less earned runs in five of his last six times scrapping the slab. The 16 walks allowed over those 31.2 IP are concerning, and resulted in an inflated WHIP over his recent appearances (1.36 as opposed to his 1.26 season-long number). His next two contests are road efforts, and that is not a positive, as he has been more effective at Rate Field on Chicago’s south side than when tossing the ball in opponents’ parks.
Mlodzinski could be headed back to resume his role as a reliever for the Pirates, despite pitching well in his most recent start in St. Louis, where he collected four Ks over 3.0 IP. The Cards tagged him for a single earned run on just three hits (and to be honest, three walks-ugh). If he sticks in the rotation, he has two home starts on the schedule…against difficult opponents, so be judicious if you decide to bank on his starting those contests.

More than any recent week, some of these arms could be considered for a single game streaming start, at least among the top four or five arms listed here. Pick carefully, looking at home/road splits and opponent. Then again, the streaming options listed below might prove to be more enticing, and are generally available on your league’s wire.
Â
Â
Potential Streaming Options for Week 23
There is no promise that each game day will provide a streaming option. First of all, the pitcher must be available in at least 50% of leagues to be a viable candidate to snag off the wire. Then, the pitchers discussed above are not included as they have a different sort of value, even though some might be available as free agents in your league. Plus, some days the matchups and/or venues just do not figure as positive enough factors to favor plugging the arm into your rotation, even for one start. That all being said, here are this week’s best Fantasy Baseball 2025 Streaming Starters candidates:
Â
Joey Wentz, Atlanta Braves @ Chicago Cubs
The 27-year-old southpaw picked up his third QS on the campaign, holding the Marlins to a single run over 6.2 IP, while collecting five Ks. He continues to hand out too many free passes (4.3 BB/9 rate over his 72.0 IP in relief and as a starter) to be fully trusted, yet this road contest plays to his strength this season as a road-warrior hurler.
Â
Luis Morales, Athletics @ St. Louis Cardinals
The 22-year-old righthanded rookie has looked sharp in his early MLB career, sporting an appealing 1.72 ERA with an equally attractive 1.15 WHIP over his limited 15.2 IP in the majors. His supporting cast has played better away from Sacramento this year, currently just a game under .500 when on the road, which also plays to his strength with regard to venue, albeit in extremely limited action (15.2 IP to date).
Â
Nabil Crismatt, Arizona Diamondbacks vs Texas Rangers
Speaking of limited 2025 big league experience, this veteran righty has been strong in two appearances in 2025, racking up a superior 1.84 ERA by allowing three earned tallies through 14.2 IP. He had been striking out a batter per inning in his limited time with the Diamondbacks as a rotation piece, until he only collected a pair in his most recent start. The opponent here has struggled mightily on the road this year.Â
Â
Yoendres Gomez, Chicago White Sox @ Minnesota Twins
Since joining the White Sox rotation, the righty has been flashing impressive effort on the hill, accumulating a notable 2.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over his 14.2 IP as a SP. He has also been striking out better than a batter per inning while toeing the rubber as a starter (9.8 K/9). Of major concern is that his team has struggled to a huge extent when playing away from Chicago, but then again, the Twins are not exactly world-beaters at home, either.
Â
Ryan Bergert, Kansas City Royals vs Los Angeles Angels
The rookie righthander has pitched into the sixth inning in each of his August starts, going 6.0 IP in his most recent outing against the White Sox. He held the host Chicago squad to just one earned run while collecting his second victory of the season. He is carrying a 2.67 ERA and superior 1.11 WHIP into this home contest against an opponent playing under .500 on the road.Â
Â
Jason Alexander, Houston Astros vs New York Yankees
The 32-year-old righty is making a case to stick in the Astros rotation, having tossed three QS in his last four times atop the bump, and also collecting three victories over that stretch, as well. His K numbers are erratic, and his overall rate on the season is below average (7.0 K/9 over 49.0 IP). He gets the Yankees away from their home park, a definite positive facet to his start here.Â
Â
Braxton Ashcraft, Pittsburgh Pirates vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Another rookie hurler putting up impressive numbers over limited action, the Pittsburgh righthander is coming off a 5.2 IP effort where he struck out five host Cardinal hitters and handed out just one walk while allowing four hits. Not as impressive as his 5.0 IP effort against the visiting Rockies where he was able to limit the offensive damage to one hit and one walk while racking up six whiffs. Not the best matchup imaginable here, but certainly more promising than taking on the Dodgers in LA.
Â
Shane Smith, Chicago White Sox @ Minnesota Twins
The righthanded rookie was rewarded with his first victory since early June, earning the win by holding the visiting Royals scoreless over 7.0 IP on a one hit/one walk effort. Over 27.1 IP in August, he has compiled a 2.63 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, satisfying ratio stats for his fantasy owners. He would generate more trust were this game a home contest, but as noted above in his teammate’s profile, Minnesota is not all that daunting a host this season.
Â
Michael McGreevy, St. Louis Cardinals vs San Francisco Giants
The second-year righthander had his string of three QS effort snapped, allowing four earned tallies to the visiting Pirates while striking out six. He did once again pitch six innings, something he has managed to perform in each of his last five times climbing the hill. Note that his best efforts have been away from Busch Stadium this season.
Â
Ian Seymour, Tampa Bay Rays vs Cleveland Guardians
This week’s allotment of streaming starters is chock-full of rookies, and the Tampa Bay southpaw fills that bill as well. He is coming off a victorious five inning effort in Cleveland, where he held the Guardians to a single hit and one free pass, while fanning eight. An impressive entrance into the Ray rotation, and now he gets to work on baffling the Guardians while on his home hill.
Â
Johan Oviedo, Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers
Since coming back from the IL with a lat injury, the 27-year-old righthander has been sharp, allowing just a single earned run in his last two starts. He was pulled from the game against the host Cardinals after just 53 pitches and four innings of action, so no decision in that outing. He has been striking out hitters at a prodigious rate (12.6 K/9 in his three appearances on the bump in August), which far outpaces his previous production, so do not get overly excited about that aspect of his game…yet. He is coming off Tommy John surgery (TJS) and his mid-90s fastball is still intact.Â
Â
Martin Perez, Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers
Three White Sox pitchers making the list of suggested streamers is a rarity, but the veteran southpaw has been exceedingly effective since returning from the IL. He has tossed 15.2 IP in August, allowing just one earned tally while parceling out just two walks and seven hits. Over that stretch, he has fanned 14 hitters, and his ERA and WHIP during that run are both sitting at an incredible 0.57. Not a fantastic matchup, to be certain, but his recent production makes it difficult not to consider using him here.
Â
Tomoyuki Sugano, Baltimore Orioles vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Despite racking up six Ks against the visiting Red Sox (where he also gave up four earned runs and two round-trippers and took the loss), his lack of strikeout production limits his fantasy value. Still, aside from the home loss he recently suffered, he had been dealing from the hill, posting a tasty 2.84 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his previous seven trips to the hill, and going 4-0 over that stretch of 38.0 IP. He gets a home start here against the Dodgers, and as noted previously, it is better this season to face the NL LA team when they are away from Dodger Stadium.
