Sandy Alcantara Over 7.0 Strikeouts
So, I know most will look at this total and find it a bit high for Alcantara seeing as he has only gone over this number in three of his 16 starts this season…..but here me out before you cross this play off your list, ok? Here are the teams Alcantara has faced this season and their team strikeout rankings this season:
- ARI - (8th)
- ATL x2 - (3rd)
- NYM x2 - (28th)
- PHI x2 - (17th)
- SDP - (20th)
- SEA - (15th)
- SFG x2 - (14th)
- STL x2 - (25th)
- WSN x3 - (29th)
Talk about a tough run of matchups there. Of his 16 starts, 50% of them have been made against teams with bottom 10 strikeout rates which include seven starts against teams with bottom five strikeout rates.
Today he faces off against an Angels team that has the highest strikeout rate in baseball at 26.2% and over the past month that number is even higher at 29.8%. This is an optimal strikeout matchup for Alcantara.
Ian Anderson Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
We went at this prop during Anderson's last start against the Phillies and it cashed quickly so why not run it back here today as he draws another tough matchup against the St.Louis Cardinals. Anderson has allowed more than 2.5 earned runs in six of his last eight starts and in four of his six home starts this year as well. Righties are hammering Anderson this season, hitting .308 with an OPS of .887 and he faces a lineup with Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado who are both on fire right now. Cardinals have also scored the second-most runs against right-handed pitching this season.
Nick Pivetta Over 5.5 Strikeouts
Pivetta has been nails for the Red Sox this season, and over the past month he has really hit another level, posting a 2.25 ERA with a near 25% strikeout rate. During that same time frame the Rays have the third-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching at 25.5% and overall they have the ninth-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. We saw Red Sox righty Kutter Crawford finish with eight strikeouts over 5.1 innings in yesterday's outing against the Rays. I look for Pivetta to have a similar performance given his current form.
