Kevin Gausman Over 6.5 Strikeouts
What an interesting prop here we have tonight for Gausman who is making his first appearance on a mound since taking a line drive off the ankle back on July 2nd. Tonight he faces a Royals team that is missing the majority of its regular starting lineup due to Canada's covid restrictions.
In fact, the Royals called up a slew minor leagues for this series just to fill out their roster.
Gausman has seen his strikeout totals fluctuate over the last month but prior to his most recent outing which he left after two innings, he finished with 10 and seven strikeouts. I'm looking for him to take advantage of an inexperienced lineup here tonight.
Framber Valdez Over 6.5 Strikeouts
Last night Cristian Javier lasted just 3.2 innings against the Angels yet still finished with 10 strikeouts. The last time Framber took the mound against the Angels, which was two starts ago, he finished with a season-high 13 strikeouts in six innings of work. As a team this season the Angels have the fourth-highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitching at 24.8%. Over the past 30 days however they have the second-highest strikeout rate against southpaws at 27.1%. Over the past month, Valdez has increased his strikeout percentage to 26.1% and his K/9 sits at 9.3. The Angels are also once again without Mike Trout tonight due to his back spasms making the lineup that much easier to attack.
Triston McKenzie Over 5.5 Strikeouts
McKenzie is really pitching in a nice groove right now, having tossed 13 innings of scoreless baseball over his last two outings while striking out 11. Tonight he faces a Tigers lineup that he has already faced once this season and dominated, holding them to just two runs over 7.2 innings while striking out eight. Those eight strikeouts are the key number here as we are looking for at least six strikeouts from McKenzie this evening. Over his last eight starts, we've seen McKenzie finish with six or more strikeouts in five of those eight outings. Against right-handed pitching this season Detroit has the sixth-highest strikeout rate at 23.8%
