Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups

Hunter Brown, Houston Astros

Brown is one of the biggest favorites on the board tonight against an inconsistent Minnesota Twins lineup. He has the highest strikeout odds on the board for the main slate according to DK Sportsbook as he’s coming off a career-high 10 Ks against Oakland. He’s struck out 8+ in three straight starts and has 26+ DKP in two straight starts. Minnesota is now tied for the league lead in K-rate against right-handed pitching at 26.3%.

James Paxton, Boston Red Sox

I could see this going two ways. Paxton notches a bunch of strikeouts like he did in his first two starts or gets shellacked. The Reds have a top-10 strikeout rate against lefties but are top-10 in OPS and wOBA as well. Paxton looked really sharp against both the Cardinals and Padres to start the year and his 5.14 ERA should be better when you dig deeper looking at his 3.74 SIERA and 3.91 xFIP. Paxton’s one of the biggest favorites on the board and I’m riding with him.

Clarke Schmidt, New York Yankees

Although Seattle’s offense has started heating up, where Clarke Schmidt really struggles is with left-handed hitters. When you look at Seattle’s offense, they’re very righty-heavy, at least from a power standpoint. Seattle probably sends a max of four lefties to the plate tonight and only one of them has a wOBA north of .324. Seattle has a 25.1% K-rate against right-handed pitching this year and that’s the 5th highest mark in the league while also ranking 21st in OPS and wOBA.

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups

Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks

Despite starting his 2023 campaign as a bullpen arm, Dinelson Lamet has been stretched out at the minor league level throwing 63 pitches in his latest rehab outing. Lamet was shelled by left-handed hitters at the major league level allowing a .435 wOBA and .304 ISO this year. Over the last two seasons, over a much bigger sample, it’s a .380 wOBA and .272 ISO. Carroll has a .282 ISO and .394 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this year. He’s up to 9 HR and 16 SB while notching a .893 OPS this season. One of the best spend-ups on the slate.

Jose Altuve, Houston Astros

After starting 0-for-4 in his first game, he’s gone 11-for-30 with two home runs, three doubles, and six runs batted in. Righties have hit Louie Varland so hard this season notching a .344 wOBA and .278 ISO. Altuve has a .192 ISO and a .359 wOBA against right-handed pitching since the start of 2022. The Astros are a very solid stack on Wednesday.

Rowdy Tellez, Milwaukee Brewers

Some of us thought Alek Manaoh would turn it around and he continues to seemingly get worse each and every start. He’s really been crushed by left-handed hitters allowing a .390 wOBA and .193 ISO along with a 56.4% hard-hit rate. Insert Tellez who has a .285 ISO and a .363 wOBA against righties.

Jake McCarthy, Arizona Diamondbacks

I’m not sure if you see a theme here, but attacking Dinelson Lamet is one of them and that means Jake McCarthy makes the cut as one of my favorite value plays of the day. McCarthy has two hits in each of his last two games while stealing two bags in each as well. McCarthy is an elite talent that is skilled in multiple facets. If he’s going to reach base and steal bags at an elite clip, he’s going to priced at 3K for maybe just a few more days.
