We are coming off a historic day after Domingo Germán threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history and the first one since 2012. It is going to be hard to top that level of excitement today, but there should still be some great baseball and a chance to make some winning MLB DFS lineups. There is baseball happening all throughout the day, with the San Diego Padres and Pittsburg Pirates playing at 12:35 EST and then a 5-game early slate starting at 2:05 EST, but we will be focused on the 5-game main slate on both DraftKings and FanDuel that will be happening later in the day getting underway at 7:07 EST. Plenty of ways to make some money today with your DFS lineups, whether you are playing cash games or gpp tournaments, so let’s jump into today’s playbook! Be sure to check in with our MLB DFS Tools, with the daily MLB projectionsMLB DFS rostership projections, and our MLB DFS Lineup Generator when building those lineups today to help you decide which players you should be targeting!

MLB Weather Updates

Philadelphia Phillies vs Chicago Cubs: Some scattered thunderstorms in Chicago, but they should be cleared out by around 6, far before game time.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies: Some scattered thunderstorms here as well that are a little more worrisome but hopefully don’t affect the game. Keep an eye on this one as we approach game time, especially with it being the latest start time on the slate.

DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

Max Scherzer is the clear top pitcher today, and it isn’t close. I am willing to pay up for him with how big of a separation there is between him and the rest of the pitchers in today’s small slate, but with such a high price tag, you may be better off going with some of the cheaper pitchers. The only pitchers I am even considering rostering today after Scherzer are Chris Bassitt, Taijuan Walker, J.P. France, and Kyle Hendricks, with my favorites found down below. On the offensive side, the Los Angeles Dodgers playing at Coors Field is the obvious favorite, but if you are wanting to pivot away from them, some of my other favorite offenses to target today are the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, and the Philadelphia Phillies

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups

Taijuan Walker, Philadelphia Phillies

Taijuan Walker has been excellent for the Phillies lately. Over his last 4 starts, he has 26 strikeouts in 26 innings while only giving up 2 earned runs giving him a 0.69 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP. While two of the stars were in easy matchups facing the Detroit Tigers and the Oakland Athletics, he also had started against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets. While his price has gone up some with this great pitching, I still think he is easily worth the price today facing the Chicago Cubs.

Kyle Hendricks, Chicago Cubs

He isn’t going to get strikeouts which means the upside is quite limited for him, but he is the only pitcher I trust in the cheaper range to still put together a decent outing today. He has a 2.60 ERA and 0.98 WHIP on the season, and if he can continue to limit the home run ball and get at least a handful of strikeouts, he can still be worth the value you get him at. I am okay with giving up the upside with Hendricks for some stability and the flexibility to get some more expensive hitters like the Dodgers in Colorado into my lineup.

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups

Pete Alonso, 1B New York Mets

Pete Alonso has been struggling to get going since returning from the IL on June 18th, batting only .154, but he still has 2 home runs since then, and it is Pete Alonso. He has been the best home run hitter in the league since entering it, and I don’t think this cold streak will continue. You also get him at one of the cheapest prices you will ever see him at, dipping below $5,000 on DraftKings for the first time this entire season. The upside is too great, even amidst a cold streak, not to take advantage of the price drop.

Jose Altuve, 2B Houston Astros

Jose Altuve just had a few days off while struggling with a heel injury and immediately hit a home run and a double, tallying up 3 RBIs and 2 runs in his return. This gives him 5 hits, 3 runs, 4 RBIs, a homer, and a steal in his last two starts. He has been providing some much-needed offense to the Astros lineup in the absence of Yordan Alvarez and is a great play at second base today, facing Adam Wainwright and going at a reasonable price.

Francisco Lindor, SS New York Mets

Francisco Lindor has been tearing the cover off the ball lately. In his last 10 games, he has slashed .324/.419/.735, along with 4 home runs and 3 stolen bases. While he normally does more damage against lefties than righties, he has been hitting well against both during this stretch and has as many homers off righties as lefties this season, so I am going to trust him today getting to face Adrian Houser of the Milwaukee Brewers

Jordan Walker, OF St. Louis Cardinals

Jordan Walker has been fantastic since being called back up by the Cardinals and is currently on a 16-game hitting streak. During that hitting streak, he has slashed .382/.460/.655, along with 4 home runs. He has struggled on the base paths going 1 for 5 in steal attempts during this hitting streak but hopefully can start to clean up the running game a bit as well. He is producing every day in this Cardinals lineup, and he’s found himself up into the 5-hole often recently and is still extremely cheap for DFS. If you aren’t pitching J.P. France today, then Walker should probably be in your outfield.
