Slate: 5-Game Early Slate | Lock Time: 12:10 PM ET, Wednesday, July 29th, 2026
MLB Weather Today, 7/29
Phillies vs Marlins – Heavy rain in the current reading, 89°F, 17% precip, 14 mph wind. loanDepot Park has a roof, so despite the rain chance in the outside forecast, this game itself shouldn't be affected.
Diamondbacks vs Pirates – Partly cloudy, 75°F, 1% precip, 14 mph wind at PNC Park. The forecaster note here is the one worth knowing: winds blowing out at 10 to 15 mph, a real boost for anyone hitting fly balls in this game.
Blue Jays vs Nationals – Partly cloudy, 83°F, 0% precip, 13 mph wind at Nationals Park.
Orioles vs Tigers – Clear, 74°F, 0% precip, 16 mph wind at Comerica Park. Same forecaster flag as Pittsburgh: winds blowing out at 10 to 15 mph.
Braves vs Mets – Mostly cloudy, 78°F, 38% precip, 8 mph wind at Citi Field. The forecaster note calls this a low-level shower risk, spotty showers are possible but the game is more likely than not to play through without a delay.
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers
MLB DFS Top Pitchers
Tarik Skubal (DET)
The best pitcher on this slate by a wide margin. A 2.70 ERA is backed almost exactly by a 2.68 FIP and 2.41 xFIP, so this isn't a mirage built on sequencing luck, it's simply what he is right now. His 11.0 K/9 pairs with a tiny 1.3 BB/9 for one of the cleanest strikeout-to-walk profiles you'll find anywhere, and a 0.92 WHIP with a .213 average allowed shows hitters just aren't finding barrels. Detroit is a monster favorite at home against Baltimore, and with wind blowing out at Comerica Park today that's more of a hitter-friendly note for Detroit's own lineup than a real threat to Skubal's dominance. Confirmed and correctly priced as the top arm on the board.
Jesus Luzardo (PHI)
A true 1a beside Skubal today. His 3.31 ERA is a shade behind his peripherals (2.93 FIP, 2.92 xFIP), suggesting the results have actually been a touch unlucky rather than fortunate, a good sign for continued production. An 11.18 K/9 is even better than Skubal's own rate, and a 2.80 BB/9 with a 1.17 WHIP round out a genuinely excellent season. Philadelphia is a big favorite (-172) over Miami, and even with heavy rain in the outside forecast, loanDepot Park's roof means none of that weather actually touches this game. Confirmed and locked into the two-hole of tonight's pitching plans.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Jared Jones (PIT)
A smaller sample (46 innings, 10 starts) that still shows real top-of-the-rotation stuff: a 3.72 ERA backed up by a 3.35 FIP and matching 3.35 xFIP, meaning there's no hidden inflation in the surface number. His 10.37 K/9 is actually the best strikeout rate of any pitcher in today's entire playbook, ahead of both Skubal and Luzardo, and a 1.02 WHIP with a .200 average allowed rounds out an excellent small-sample profile. The recent trend is even more compelling: over his last four starts (21.0 innings), he's posted a 1.29 ERA with a 1.64 FIP, a 12.0 K/9, a 37.8% strikeout rate, and a microscopic .100 average allowed, a genuine step forward rather than a one-start hot streak. Pittsburgh is a modest home favorite (-130) over Arizona, and with the wind blowing out at PNC Park today, run support shouldn't be an issue either. The only real caveat is the shorter track record relative to the two stars above him, but both the season-long and recent-form numbers fully support the price.
Trevor Rogers (BAL)
The season-long profile is a mixed signal worth presenting honestly: a 4.17 ERA is actually a bit better than his 3.72 FIP would suggest is sustainable on one hand, but a 4.49 xFIP is worse than both, not a clean read in either direction. But the recent trend changes the picture: over his last four starts (24.1 innings), he's run a 1.48 ERA backed by a much-improved 2.83 FIP, with his strikeout rate ticking up to 8.1 K/9 and his walk rate actually improving to 8.2%, a real form upgrade rather than just a lucky stretch. His season-long 7.21 K/9 is still the lowest of today's four featured arms, so the swing-and-miss ceiling remains capped even with the recent gains. Baltimore is a big underdog (+145) at Detroit today, which caps his win-equity appeal regardless of the stuff underneath. Given the recent trend, treat him as a rotation piece with an improving floor rather than the purely middling season-long profile alone would suggest.
Top Options For Strikeouts
Ranking by K/9 across today's featured arms:
- Jared Jones: 10.37 K/9 (best rate of anyone on today's slate, small-sample caveat applies)
- Jesus Luzardo: 11.18 K/9
- Tarik Skubal: 11.0 K/9
- Trevor Rogers: 7.21 K/9 (lowest of the four featured arms)
Best Odds For A Win
The favorites among tonight's picks, by moneyline:
- Tarik Skubal / Tigers: -179 (vs. Orioles)
- Jesus Luzardo / Phillies: -172 (vs. Marlins)
- Jared Jones / Pirates: -130 (vs. Diamondbacks)
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters
MLB DFS Top Hitters
James Wood (OF, WSH)
The best individual number in today's entire hitter pool: a 168.3 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and he draws a righty today in Trey Yesavage. A .305 ISO shows this is legitimate top-of-the-scale power, not just a batting-average-driven number, and a strong 19.8% walk rate against right-handers adds real on-base equity on top of the pop. Washington is a slight home underdog (-100 essentially pick'em against Toronto's -120), but Wood's own production doesn't depend on the team context around him. Still listed as Projected rather than Confirmed as of this lineup pull, worth a final check closer to game time.
Bryce Harper (1B, PHI)
Right there with Wood at the top of the pool: a 162.3 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and he gets a righty today in Ryan Gusto. His .321 ISO is elite raw power, and a 14.8% walk rate against right-handers shows the plate discipline hasn't slipped at all. Philadelphia is a heavy favorite (-172) at home, giving Harper plenty of expected plate appearances in a game the Vegas line likes. Confirmed in the cleanup spot, this is as safe a top-of-the-pool bat as exists on the slate.
Bryan Reynolds (OF, PIT)
A genuinely strong platoon matchup: a 136.99 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this year, and he faces a lefty today in Eduardo Rodriguez. A .211 ISO against lefties shows real power in this specific split, and a healthy 11.3% walk rate keeps the floor stable even on a quiet day. Eduardo Rodriguez's surface ERA (2.64) is dramatically better than his FIP (4.16) and xFIP (4.59), a strong signal that positive regression is coming, and Reynolds is well-positioned to be part of that correction. Still listed as Projected as of this pull rather than Confirmed, worth double-checking closer to first pitch.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
George Springer (OF, TOR)
Worth the honest framing up front: Springer's 93.5 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this year is actually a shade below league average, so this isn't purely a name-value inclusion working off real standout numbers. He faces a righty today in Zack Littell, whose season has been genuinely rough: a 5.17 ERA backed by an even worse 6.03 FIP, and 25 home runs allowed in just 101 innings (2.23 HR/9). The case here is almost entirely about Littell's vulnerability rather than Springer's own platoon strength, a pitcher-exploit play more than a data-backed matchup smash. At $4,200, the price does reflect that this isn't a top-tier form season for Springer specifically.
Esmerlyn Valdez (OF, PIT)
The single biggest number anywhere in today's playbook: a 252.3 wRC+ against left-handed pitching, though it comes with a major sample-size caveat, just 53 plate appearances on the year in that split. A .600 ISO in that sample is obviously unsustainable at that exact level, but it does confirm real over-the-fence power exists in this bat against lefties. He faces a southpaw today in Eduardo Rodriguez, whose 2.64 ERA is running well below his FIP and xFIP, another name-vs-name case where positive hitter regression could show up. Treat this as a high-ceiling, low-certainty dart rather than a projectable core piece given how thin the underlying track record is.
Kazuma Okamoto (3B, TOR)
A solid, unspectacular 110.5 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, comfortably above league average without being an elite number. He faces a righty today in Zack Littell, the same homer-prone arm (2.23 HR/9, 25 allowed) that makes the rest of this Toronto lineup appealing. A .233 ISO shows real over-the-fence pop to go with the solid average, and Toronto is favored on the moneyline (-120) in a game with one of the higher implied totals on the early slate. A clean complementary piece in the Blue Jays' order at a reasonable price point.
Hao-Yu Lee (2B, DET)
Confirmed at the bottom of a stacked Tigers lineup, Lee's 110.3 wRC+ against left-handed pitching is solidly above average, and he draws a lefty today in Trevor Rogers. The sample is on the smaller side (81 plate appearances vs. LHP), so some regression toward a league-average mark is possible, but a .171 ISO and manageable 22.2% strikeout rate support a real everyday-caliber platoon bat rather than a total mirage. At $2,700, he's a cheap way to round out exposure to a Detroit offense that's a big favorite at home. Confirmed status removes the lineup risk that a couple of the other value plays above still carry.
MLB DFS Top Stacks
Top Stack: Philadelphia Phillies vs Ryan Gusto (MIA RHP)
Why: Gusto's 4.50 ERA is actually worse than his 3.58 FIP, a rare case among today's featured arms where the pitcher has been unlucky rather than fortunate, so some caution is warranted about expecting continued struggles. Philadelphia is a heavy moneyline favorite (-172) in a game without any real weather threat despite the rainy outside forecast, since loanDepot Park's roof neutralizes it. Harper and the top of this order give the stack a legitimate top-to-bottom foundation rather than one star carrying the group alone. J.T. Realmuto rounds out the lineup at a modest 86.1 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, a fair depth piece rather than a standout number, but it adds a fourth way into this stack at catcher.
Targets: Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto
Top Stack: Toronto Blue Jays vs Zack Littell (WSH RHP)
Why: Littell has been genuinely bad this year: a 5.17 ERA, an even worse 6.03 FIP, and 25 home runs allowed in 101 innings, a 2.23 HR/9 that's the most hittable rate of any pitcher referenced in today's playbook. Toronto is favored on the moneyline (-120) in the highest implied-total game of the early window (5 runs). Worth flagging: Vladimir Guerrero left yesterday's game with a hamstring issue and is questionable for today, so he's left out of the targets below until his status is confirmed. Nathan Lukes actually posts the best individual number in this lineup, a strong 128.3 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, ahead of both Springer and Okamoto, and the depth of this lineup against a pitcher this exploitable still makes it the clearest top stack of the day even without Guerrero.
Targets: George Springer, Kazuma Okamoto, Ernie Clement, Nathan Lukes
“Contrarian” Stacks
Contrarian Stack: Washington Nationals vs Trey Yesavage (TOR RHP)
Why: Yesavage's 3.92 ERA and 4.15 FIP are both fair, middle-of-the-pack numbers, not a hidden trap or a hidden gem, so this isn't a pitcher-exploit case the way some of today's other matchups are. Washington is a slight moneyline underdog in this game, and the Blue Jays being favored means public attention naturally leans toward the other side of this exact matchup. James Wood's own elite platoon number (168.3 wRC+ vs. RHP) is the real carrying piece here, a star-level individual bat in a game that isn't drawing the popular stack attention Toronto's side is. Daylen Lile adds a fourth piece at a right-around-average 98.2 wRC+ against right-handers, a reasonable complementary bat further down the order.
Targets: James Wood, CJ Abrams, Luis Garcia, Daylen Lile
Contrarian Stack: Pittsburgh Pirates vs Eduardo Rodriguez (ARI LHP)
Why: Eduardo Rodriguez's 2.64 ERA looks great on the surface, but it's running dramatically ahead of both his FIP (4.16) and xFIP (4.59), one of the largest gaps of any pitcher in this playbook and a real signal that regression could show up at any time. Pittsburgh is favored on the moneyline (-130) in this matchup, and the PNC Park wind blowing out today only adds to the case. Reynolds and Valdez both get individual mention above for their platoon-specific strength against lefties, giving this stack real depth beyond just betting on Rodriguez's luck running out. Ryan O'Hearn rounds out a fourth piece at a below-average 78.4 wRC+ against lefties specifically, worth including for salary relief more than a strong platoon case.
Targets: Bryan Reynolds, Esmerlyn Valdez, Nick Gonzales, Ryan O'Hearn
Contrarian Stack: Atlanta Braves vs Sean Manaea (NYM LHP)
Why: Manaea's season-long numbers are consistently mediocre rather than a hidden gem or a hidden trap: a 4.52 ERA with a similar 4.27 FIP and 4.20 xFIP, so what you see is roughly what you get. This isn't a smash spot purely on the moneyline either, the game is close to even money, so the appeal is mostly about Manaea's unremarkable stuff against a lineup with real individual power up top. Ozzie Albies backs that up directly with a 116.2 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this year, comfortably above average and a real complement to Acuna and Olson. Drake Baldwin adds a solid fourth piece at 109.3 wRC+ against lefties, giving this stack four above-average bats rather than just a couple of stars.
Targets: Ronald Acuna, Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Drake Baldwin
