Welcome to day three of the season! The first two days have been awesome and it feels so good to have baseball back. The Dodgers are still appearing to be the best team in baseball. Mookie Betts is looking for revenge from last year’s MVP race as he collected his third home run of the season on Friday night and Bobby Miller struck out 11 in six scoreless innings, throwing his hat in the ring as the team’s ace.

I am excited to have a full day of baseball on the table as we head into opening weekend! We get a healthy 6-game main slate on both DraftKings and FanDuel kicking off at 7:05 PM EST. This slate could quickly turn  into a 4-game slate with rain concerns in southern California, so be on the lookout for updates.

MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook

MLB Weather: Today, 3/30

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres

Southern California will see a ton of rain this afternoon and tonight. Most of the heavy rain is expected to clear up in the afternoon giving this game some hope but keep an eye on the forecast.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Southern California will see a ton of rain this afternoon and tonight. The rain is expected to slow down into the late afternoon which gives us hope it will be played but we will have to closely monitor this.

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

This slate is going to be a little tricky with the weather concerns and a limited number of pitchers to pick from. Logan Gilbert looks to be the clear-cut best arm on the board, with even more promise if Rafael Devers should miss his second straight game.

On the offensive side, the Dodgers are in a fantastic spot if the rain holds off, followed by the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Arizona Diamondbacks who have been hot.

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners

Logan Gilbert is coming off a shaky spring where he allowed four home runs in 16 innings, but I don’t put a ton of stock in spring outings. Last year he posted a solid 3.73 ERA while averaging 8.92 K/9.

He allowed 29 home runs last season but the Boston Red Sox don’t have the most intimidating lineup, especially if Rafael Devers misses another game. Sure, they have some strong bats in Tristan Casas and even Tyler O’Neil who homered on opening day, but with few pitching options on the board, Gilbert is in play.

Dylan Cease, San Diego Padres

Coming off a pretty bad year in Chicago, Dylan Cease will be looking to turn the page and start anew in San Diego. He looked good in Spring Training, striking out 18 through 12 innings. We have seen some pitchers get rocked in their first starts this year (looking at you Zach Eflin) but I like this matchup for Cease.

We can’t look too much at last year’s stats as rosters have changed, but the Giants struggled offensively last year. Against right-handed pitching, they ranked 23rd with a .306 wOBA while holding the 9th-highest strikeout rate at 24.1%. Cease is generally good at limiting the damage and has big strikeout talent which should give him the edge here.

Hunter Brown, Houston Astros

Hunter Brown was solid at the beginning of last season, but the wheels fell off and he had a really rough rest of the season. He finished with a miserable 5.09 ERA but did flash his talent early on. He’s had a great Spring Training, posting a 2.12 ERA through 17 innings with 17 strikeouts, showing promise for his first start.

Last season the Yankees were abysmal against right-handed arms, ranking 27th with a .297 wOBA while holding the 8th-highest strikeout rate at 24.2%. The Yankees did make some moves this offseason, adding superstar Juan Soto to help address these concerns. It’s always going to be scary when Aaron Judge is on the other team, but Brown is interesting on this slate.

Note: Will Be Updated as Official Starting Lineups Are Released

Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez, Los Angeles Dodgers

I’m going to group all of them together because you can build a lineup around any combination of two that fits your build. The Dodgers are going to have one of the highest run totals on every slate and we’ve already seen multiple home runs from Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez. If the weather holds up, they will see Lance Lynn on the mound who led the league last season in home runs allowed with 44.

Lourdes Gurriel, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

Lourdes Gurriel has started his season off on fire, with two home runs in as many games. The Diamondbacks have the highest implied run total tonight and he’s very fairly priced. The Rockies are sending Southpaw Austin Gomber to the mound who allowed a .476 SLG to right-handed bats last year which bodes well for Lourdes who holds a career .197 ISO vs LHP.

Eugenio Suarez, 3B, Arizona Diamondbacks

I’m going to double down on Arizona and play Eugenio Suarez at 3B. The Diamondbacks have been rolling the Rockies and with the highest implied run total, stacking as many of them as we can is likely ideal, especially at this price. He holds a career .222 ISO vs left-handed pitchers and has already picked up three RBIs and two runs in the series.
