MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers
Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies - Arm
Wheeler is dealing with a blood clot near his right shoulder and was placed on the IL. At this juncture, there’s no timetable for his return.
Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves - Rib
Sale was solid yet again in rehab start number two, striking out four batters across 4 IP of one-run ball.
Luis Garcia, Houston Astros - Elbow
Garcia worked through 4.2 IP in his last rehab start, and one would think his return to the big league club has to be right around the corner. Roster Resource has Garcia as the listed starter for Tuesday, August 26th, against Colorado.
Chase Burns, Cincinnati Reds - Forearm
Burns is dealing with a flexor strain in his pitching arm and was placed on the injured list. I’d expect Cincy to be very cautious with their future ace.
Cristian Javier, Houston Astros - Illness
Javier left his last start early due to illness. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about him missing his next start.
Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs - Calf
Taillon’s next start should come with the Cubs, and it could be Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader.
Kyle Bradish, Baltimore Orioles - Elbow
Bradish will likely take one more turn in the rotation in the minors before being activated and joining the big league rotation. Bradish is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his last big league start came in June of 2024.

MLB Injury Report: Relief Pitchers
Josh Hader, Houston Astros - Shoulder
Hader is shut down from throwing for three weeks. Fantasy managers likely won’t get any more strikeouts or saves from Hader, but Houston is leaving the door open for a return during the postseason.
Tanner Scott, Los Angeles Dodgers - Elbow
Scott is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday this week. When healthy, Scott should resume his role as the primary closer for the Dodgers.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters
Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros - Hand
Alvarez is set to begin a rehab assignment this Tuesday, as he continues to work his way back from a fracture in his right hand.
Jackson Merrill, San Diego Padres - Ankle
Merrill is day-to-day with an ankle injury he suffered during the series against the Dodgers.
Marcelo Mayer, Boston Red Sox - Wrist
Mayer’s 2025 season has come to an end, as he opted for a surgical procedure to alleviate the problems with his nagging wrist issue.
Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers - Oblique
Muncy was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain. He missed over three months earlier this year with a right oblique strain as well.
Giancarlo Stanton, New York Yankees - Lower Body
Stanton has missed the team’s last couple of games with soreness in his lower body. Consider him day to day.
Matt Chapman, San Francisco Giants - Hand
Chapman was placed on the injured list with inflammation in his right hand. Casey Schmitt (if healthy) and Christian Koss should handle most of the time at the hot corner while Chapman is out.
Victor Scott, St. Louis Cardinals - Ankle
Scott was placed on the injured list with a sprained ankle he suffered trying to make a play on a would-be Aaron Judge home run over the weekend.
Kyle Stowers, Miami Marlins - Oblique
Stowers strained his oblique, and it was determined to be a Grade 1 strain. He was placed on the injured list over the weekend.
Brendan Donovan, St. Louis Cardinals - Foot/Groin
Donovan hasn’t started the last three games due to foot/groin issues. Consider him day to day at this point. Thomas Saggese has shifted over to the keystone in the past three games in lieu of Donovan.
Jacob Wilson, Athletics - Forearm
Wilson began a rehab assignment over the weekend, and he went 2-for-8 in his first two games.
Josh Lowe, Tampa Bay Rays - Oblique
Lowe is dealing with some tightness in his right oblique, and I’d expect the Rays to be cautious with him, because it was that same oblique that cost him the start of the 2025 season.
