We are exactly one week away from the MLB All-Star Break where we all get to exhale and take stock of our fantasy baseball lineups. Unfortunately, even with that tent pole on the horizon, the MLB injury situations don’t take a break. As usual, we have a good mix of news of players returning and unfortunate news of guys hitting the injured list. If you need to fill holes on your fantasy baseball rosters, we have the waiver wire help from Ray Kuhn here and if you are looking for a two-start pitcher or a guy to stream, Ivar Anderson has your solutions here. Don’t let off the gas this week with the break coming soon, be sure to keep working that fantasy baseball lineup and that starts with the MLB injury report that we have for you right now.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report July 11

Jacob deGrom – The Mets ace is set to make his next rehab start either Wednesday or Thursday as he tries to return from injury. He pitched very well his last time out and I would think if he pitches well again that he might only need one more rehab start. I would say there is a very strong chance that deGrom is on the mound for the Mets in one of their first few games out of the All-Star Break.

Yordan Alvarez – The Astros big bopper landed on the 10-day injured list with hand soreness. He went back to Houston to have some tests done, but it doesn’t seem like this is overly serious. Assuming he misses just the ten days, Alvarez should be set to return pretty much right after the break.

Whit Merrifield – The Royals speedster left Sunday’s game with right toe soreness. He had x-rays that came back negative, but now will go for an MRI to find the extent of the injury. I didn’t get the impression that this is going to be a long-term injury, but we should know more after the MRI.

C.J. Cron – He was hit on the hand on Friday and didn’t play Saturday or Sunday, but the x-rays came back negative, and the fact that Cron hasn’t been put on the injured list says to me that the team doesn’t believe that he will need a lot of time to recover. You might want to play it safe in a league where you can only update your starting lineup once a week, but I truly believe he will be back on Tuesday.

Starling Marte – The Mets outfielder did not play on Sunday with a groin injury. The good news is that the MRI came back and was clean, and the groin is just tight. There seems to be a very strong possibility that he ends up on the 10-day injured list, and even if he doesn’t, I would expect him to miss several more games. The likely scenario though is that Marte ends up on the injured list and gets ready to rejoin the Mets out of the All-Star Break.

Wander Franco – The Rays future stud is back on the injured list with right wrist discomfort. Word is that Tampa expects this to be a hamate injury that would keep Franco out several weeks. It has not been the season that those that drafted Franco expected (me included), and now he is likely to miss a while longer again. Stash him away and hopefully we get a timetable for his return this week.

Chris Sale – It has now been confirmed that Sale is going to pitch for the Red Sox on Tuesday against Tampa Bay. He wasn’t great in his last minor league rehab start, but the results aren’t really that important. The more important info is that he threw 72 pitches and is ready to return. Considering how many pitches he threw last week, I wouldn’t expect him to be on any sort of short leash on Tuesday and you should get him into your lineups for it.

Kevin Gausman – There was hope that Gausman would start Sunday after a successful bullpen session on Friday, but he did not take the ball. Now that his potential start came and went, and he was unable to pitch it will remain to be seen if Gausman will be placed on the injured list. With the All-Star Break a week away, you’d think the Jays would be conservative and give their stud pitcher a little extra rest.

Brandon Lowe – The Rays slugger was hit in the head with a pitch on Thursday in his minor league rehab assignment but worked out on Saturday and was back in the lineup on Sunday for the Bulls. Lowe is trying to make his return from a lower back injury since May 15th. He wasn’t off to the best start, but Lowe has major power potential, and hopefully will be back before the All-Star Break.

Domingo Germán – His road to recovery is nearly complete as German threw four innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, and struck out four. He has been solid in his three minor league starts, although hasn’t gone deep in games. With the success of the Yankees pitching staff so far, it will be interesting to see if they go to a six-man rotation or if German or someone else goes to the bullpen.

Kris Bryant – The Rockies oft-injured hitter left in the middle of the game Sunday which surely left everyone figuring that he was hurt yet again. The good news is that he is headed to the Paternity List as his wife gives birth. It is a very joyous occasion for the birth of a child but comes at an unfortunate time for fantasy players. Bryant had finally heated up and hit four home runs this week. He should only miss a couple of days and hopefully can get right back on track.

Joey Votto – The struggling Reds first baseman missed another game on Sunday with back soreness. He has now been out a week and for some reason the Reds have not placed him on the injured list. I guess the Reds aren’t exactly trying to win games this season, but it is still strange to not keep the roster spot open. He hasn’t exactly played well anyway, but I would imagine they will hold him out of the lineup until he is ready.

Bryan Reynolds – The Pirates trade chip….I mean outfielder left Sunday’s game with discomfort in his right side and the initial report is that he is day to day and the team is hopeful he avoids the injured list. The fact that he wasn’t immediately placed on the injured list gives fantasy players some hope that he won’t miss much time, however, injuries to that part of the body are hard to heal and easy to reinjure. With the All-Star Break coming the Pirates could play it safe with their best player, but they’ve also played great this month, so they could bring him back as soon as he feels ready.

Kevin Kiermaier – The Rays outfielder left Saturday’s game with a hip injury, and he was placed on the injured list on Sunday. His left hip has given him trouble in the past and he will likely miss more than the minimum ten days. He doesn’t offer a ton of speed or power, and his batting average has been less than ideal. I would drop Kiermaier if he is on your roster at the moment.

Mitch Garver – The Rangers let their catcher play through the weekend against his former team, but he is now going to miss the rest of the season with surgery on his flexor tendon. He was having a fine season at least from a power perspective, but you’ll be left looking for a new catcher for the remainder of 2022.
