Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Infielders

Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants - 28% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 8-10%)

Since August 1st, Bryce Eldridge has a .298/.377/.473 slash with five home runs and 27 runs batted in. Eldridge is always on base and hits for a solid amount of power. He’s an extremely valuable fantasy option for the remainder of the season and thankfully, the Giants hit the road for six straight games. For what it’s worth, he does have an .802 OPS at home so the final two series shouldn’t be an issue for him.

Travis Bazzana, Cleveland Guardians - 22% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 8-10%)

It’s been an up and down season for Travis Bazzana but it’s been a lot of good lately and he’s a very high ceiling offensive player because of the power/speed combination. In September, he’s slashing .370/.500/.667 with a .497 wOBA while belting two home runs, driving in nine runs, and scoring six more across 10 games. Bazzana hasn’t swiped a base in September but is two away from 20 on the year. Duel threat fantasy player.

Coby Mayo, Baltimore Orioles - 21% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 6-8%)

There’s an outside chance that Coby Mayo ends up hitting 30 bombs this year as he’s just seven away and it’s all thanks to a monster second half of the year. In 45 games since the break, Coby Mayo has belted 11 home runs and is hitting a surprising .271. His .576 SLG% and .306 ISO tell the story on where Mayo’s fantasy value comes from; power.

Mayo has decimated left-handed pitching specifically as he’s slashing .316/.380/.735 with a .419 ISO and against righties he only has a .169/.234/.307 slash. In a VERY small September sample, he’s been a 199 wRC+ player against righties and has belted three homers against righties.

Josh Jung, Texas Rangers - 20% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 6-7%)

We’re talking about a really good hitter. A .295 hitter in fact as he missed a boatload of games, but third base is a bad, bad position. Josh Jung should slot into third for the remainder of the season and is a very solid addition for anyone looking for improvements in ratios such as AVG (.295) and OBP (.362). Jung has a career-high 8.2% BB, career-low 17.7% K and that has been a huge help to his season and is a big indicator he will continue to reach base at a high clip.

Leo Bernal, St. Louis Cardinals - 7% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 4-5%)

It’s been an incredibly good start to Leo Bernal’s major league career as he’s hitting .311 with a .397 wOBA and the counting stats have been good too; three home runs, 13 RBI, and eight runs scored in just 11 games. With catcher being such a volatile position, Bernal could be exactly what the doctor ordered for the remainder of the campaign.

 

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Outfielders

Henry Bolte, Athletics - 40% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 12-13%)

I’ve repeatedly talked about how good of a fantasy roster Henry Bolte is for the remainder of the year for multiple weeks now and that just hasn’t changed at all. How is he still less than 50% rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy? 

Since August 1st, Bolte has hit .318 and has seven home runs, 29 runs scored, 15 more driven in, and has eight steals. He’s slotting in every day at the top of the Athletics lineup every day and we know about the 80-grade speed, but the power has been the biggest surprise thus far. His ballpark is conducive to that power playing up too.

A.J. Ewing, New York Mets - 24% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 6-8%)

It’s been a great start to the month of September for A.J. Ewing as he’s hitting .394 through nine games and he’s coming off a month in which he stole a season-high eight bases, so Ewing is being productive in multiple ways. His fantasy super power is speed and if you’re looking for a late-season surge there, Ewing is at the top of the adds considering he’s playing every day.

Max Clark, Detroit Tigers - 20% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 7-9%)

Things are trending up for Max Clark as all of his pedigree is starting to shine through. In September, Clark’s absolutely raking as he’s batting .382 with one home run, eight runs scored, five driven in, and three stolen bases. He’s been awesome. He’s an incredibly toolsy player and there’s a reason as to why he was a top-five prospect in the entire spot upon being called up.

Josue De Paula, Los Angeles Dodgers - 16% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 10-12%)

We can talk all about how Josue De Paula skipped over Double-A, but this is one of the best hitting prospects in the sport getting to hit in the heart of the Dodgers lineup. He has 70-grade power, which is not often given out to prospects. At Double-A this year, De Paula hit .303 with 27 home runs in 124 games. He hit his first home run at the big league level this weekend and should continue to play nearly every day while the team is without Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages. We’ll see if De Paula sticks when Ohtani returns, but I doubt it. That said, he’s a nice source of power for the time being.

Garrett Mitchell, Milwaukee Brewers - 13% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 4-6%)

This is the first time we’ve seen Garrett Mitchell stay healthy during his career and he’s really showing off what he can do. He’s had a really nice campaign in terms of counting stats as he’s helped in a boatload of different areas. He’s already driven in 10 runs and scored 10 more in September and the team has had no choice but to move him up in the order as the season has gone on. Barely rostered in Yahoo! Fantasy leagues and that should change for the stretch run of the season.

 

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers

Mason Montgomery, Pittsburgh Pirates - 47% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 9-11%)

The running tally of appearances in a row in which Mason Montgomery has recorded a save is five and he’s done that in a 10-day span. Five saves in 10 days is fantastic. Montgomery has 12 saves on the year despite only having one save before the All-Star break and he’s incredibly useful in ratios considering he’s up to a 13.8 K/9 on the year. Best closer still rostered in less than half of Yahoo! Fantasy baseball leagues.

Roki Sasaki, Dodgers - 40% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 6-8%)

There’s not a confirmed return date for Roki Sasaki, but manager Dave Roberts had said that he could be returning this upcoming Thursday from a blister injury that has sidelined him for a while. Before his blister issue, Roki Sasaki pitched extremely well notching a 3.05 ERA and elevating his strikeout rate to 23.3%. 

Sasaki was pretty consistently pitching deeper into games after the break, notching quality starts in three of five outings, before leaving the last start due to a blister issue (so we’re not counting that one).

Kade Anderson, Seattle Mariners - 37% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 8-10%)

It hadn’t gone all too well for super prospect Kade Anderson through his first three starts but start number four got things on track. It was his first quality start and win and Anderson was really sharp. The strikeouts still haven’t necessarily been there like we expected them to be but they’re coming. He’s posted an 11.3% SwStr through four starts and has twice been over 12%, so he’s going to start missing more bats. Anderson is scheduled for two starts this upcoming week too.

Quinn Mathews, St. Louis Cardinals - 11% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 5-6%)

We’re going to get two starts out of Quinn Mathews this upcoming week and he’s someone I want to invest in in fantasy baseball leagues for the remainder of the year. Mathews, like Anderson before him, is coming off his best start of the year as he got through six innings while allowing just two runs against the Giants. Again, comparing Mathews to Anderson, he has an elevated swinging strike rate (10.5%) and that should translate into strikeouts. Mathews is very interesting for the remainder of the season.

Jonah Tong, New York Mets - 8% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy (FAAB - 5-6%)

Another prospect with a two-star week. I love it here. Jonah Tong made one bad pitch in his start against the Marlins but the thing to note were the strikeouts and the walks, two things Tong always highlights. He only walked one batter and struck out seven and had a robust 18.4% SwStr to boot. The talent is not in question; it’s his control. He walked 4.34 BB/9 last year in five starts, 4.96 at Triple-A this year, and in four appearances at the major leagues this year, it’s 4.8. Reign that in and Tong can be special.
