Today’s Playbook will cover both the seven-game slate of contests around the industry starting at 1:05 p.m. ET and the eight-game slate of contests starting at 7:05 p.m. ET. I have tried to include an even mix of players playing in each slate. If you’re looking for additional options, make sure to check the DFS Rankings which will have additional players ranked past the ones discussed below.
It is suggested that you avoid the all-day slate on FanDuel as there is now late swap there and players rostered playing in the late games are at risk of not being in the lineup and netting you a zero. The all-day slate on DraftKings is a safer option with late swap allowed.
In the interest of shortening the player blurbs below, let me quickly point out the starting pitchers in action today that have the biggest platoon splits. Mike Pelfrey, Julio Teheran and R.A. Dickey all have an xFIP over 5.00 since the start of last season against lefties. Teheran has been good against righties in the same time frame, Pelfrey has been average, and Dickey has been a bit worse than average.
Jered Weaver, Tom Koehler, Mike Wright and A.J. Griffin are right-handers who have bad numbers against hitters from both sides of the plate. Teams facing them make for good stack options since platoon splits won’t necessitate using disjointed stacks. There’s also Jake Odorizzi who has a reverse split and has one of the worst xFIPs against righties among starters going today, but he is much better than average against lefties.
On the weather front, the game in Cincinnati appears to be at the greatest risk of being postponed, though you should certainly check the forecast later in the afternoon. A few other games could be in for delayed starts, but, again, we’ll need to check the forecast closer to lock. Winds appear to be helping hitters in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Cleveland and hurting hitters in Detroit and at Wrigley.
All mentions below of a player’s wRC+ against left- or right-handed pitching are for the time frame of 2014 to present. If you’re not familiar with wRC+, 100 is average and the further above 100 you get the better with 200 being exactly twice as good as average. And obviously the further below 100 you get the worse the performance is.
All players are listed according to their FanDuel positional eligibility.
