Well, we have a lot of ballpark influence here tonight. The Mets and the Rockies will square off in Coors Field eliminating one of the better pitchers of the night in Matt Harvey from contention. The Diamondbacks are also home at Chase Field where runs are plenty too. Those two parks are the highest run factors in MLB right now and have been for the last three seasons. We also have the third (Globe Life Park), fourth (Yankee Stadium), fifth (Fenway Park) and seventh (Progressive Field) in play this evening. But quite possibly my favorite under the radar ballpark, Miller Park will have the dome closed tonight due to rain in the area. This means the ball will be jumping out and provides us with a much cheaper alternative to Coors Field.
So, that is the good news. The bad news is that there is a lot of weather issues expected across the country tonight. The White Sox/Yankees will be in real danger of a delay or cancellation with rain most of the day in New York and a 40% chance during the game. The Astros/Red Sox is a long shot to get played as it will be raining all day long in Boston and there is a 70% chance at heavy rain during the game. The last game that could be impacted is the Braves/Royals where there are thunderstorms early but those are likely to clear up meaning the game should get in at some point. Be sure to check our weather updates on the lineups page and listen to the grumpy bastard Ted Schuster's Screen Door Weather Report on our SiriusXM Show this afternoon.
As usual, I am ignoring the early game between the Pirates and the Cubs today. There is just no reason to try and play an all day contest when we will not have hardly any lineup or umpire information available to us when lineups lock.
Starting pitching is going to be REAL challenging today. I would consider my top seven pitchers to be technically in play tonight which really means that none of them stand out above the others. Chris Sale is the best arm but he is in a bad ballpark with significant weather issues. I'm putting more faith in home/road splits with pitchers today than I normally do because that is just the way this slate has fallen.
