Investing Heavily

Clayton Kershaw, LAD – Always an outstanding option, but facing Bumgarner could make it tough to earn the win.

Madison Bumgarner, SF – He’s also been outstanding, but again, locking down the win is no easy feat against Kershaw.

Chris Sale, CHW – The Rays may not be huge strikeout victims (just a 17-percent K-rate vs lefties), but their .274 wOBA is extremely underwhelming.

Zack Greinke, ARI – Finally, a match-up we can get behind Greinke for! The Padres have a league-worst .243 wOBA against righties and are fanning at an incredibly poor 29.6-percent of the time.

Moderately Priced

Carlos Martinez, STL – Plain and simple, the Reds are bad. The occasional flash of power only comes with an extremely favorable match-up and that is not this. Instead, look for Martinez to expose their .283 wOBA and feeble 69 wRC+. Not to mention a .112 wOBA which ranks just 23rd in the majors.

Garrett Richards, LAA – He’s just warming up, people. Have some faith. Facing a Twins team with a .263 wOBA and a ridiculous 30.2-percent strikeout rate should be just what he needs right now.

Edinson Volquez, KC – Love how bad the A’s are, offensively-speaking. The .253 wOBA against righties, the 64 wRC+ and, of course, the 23.3-percent strikeout rate should tilt everything in Volquez’ favor.

Wei-Yin Chen, MIA – Been a rough start to the season but this is the confidence-booster he needs. Braves are striking out 24.4-percent of the time and have just a .195 wOBA against southpaws this year. And don’t forget the .038 ISO!

Middle Class

Jake Odorizzi, TB – The win will be tough to attain while facing Sale, but he should have a strong performance against a team with a .276 wOBA and just a .101 ISO against right-handers.

Joe Ross, WAS – The Phillies have a shown a little life recently, but Ross should be able to stymie their .301 wOBA versus right-handers while racking up some points thanks to their 22.1-percent K-rate.

Bargain Basement

Jeff Locke, PIT – I never like to use someone like Locke when you’ve got all these aces on the hill, but the Brewers have a pitiful .254 wOBA against lefties and are striking out a massive 35.8-percent of the time.
