DFS MLB Hitting Coach: May 8

I want to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to my mother and to all mothers. I hope all of you are fortunate enough to have a mom like mine who will insist on having the Cubs game on while we celebrate Mother’s Day this afternoon. My mom may be disappointed to find only one Cub in today’s DFS MLB Hitting Coach, but most Cubs are expensive, Tanner Roark is a pretty tough opponent, and there are a lot of other matchups I will look to exploit Sunday.

J.T. Realmuto is 11-for-27 over his last seven games, and he has been batting leadoff since Dee Gordon got suspended.

Jonathan Lucroy is 7-for-20 over the last week, and if the Brewers score a bunch of runs against John Lamb like I suspect they will, Lucroy will likely be right in the middle of it.

Anthony Rizzo is 11-for-27 over the last week, and if you are going to pay up for a first baseman, it may as well be him.

Victor Martinez is 3-for-6 with a home run against Martin Perez, and 7-for-24 over the last week.

Marwin Gonzalez played second base and batted second with Altuve out Saturday, and he would be a great cheap play if that happens against Sunday. Gonzalez is 8-for-16 in his career against Hisashi Iwakuma.

Adrian Gonzalez is 2-for-2 with a home run against Marco Estrada, and he is working on a modest four-game hitting streak. Gonzalez is too expensive on FantasyAces, but he is worth playing on the other sites.

Chris Carter is 11-for-30 with five home runs over the last week.

I understand Justin Smoak isn’t any good, but he is batting fifth at home in a very good lineup, and he is 9-for-22 over the last week. I especially like Smoak on DraftKings, where he costs the minimum and you can play Marwin Gonzalez at third base.

Jason Kipnis is 4-for-11 in his career against Edinson Volquez, and he is 4-for-12 over his last three games.

Jose Altuve missed Saturday’s game with a sore left index finger, but he is 13-for-30 against Hisashi Iwakuma, and Altuve is a good play if he is active.

Chase Utley is 6-for-10 in his career against Marco Estrada.

Jeff Francoeur will likely bat fourth against lefty Patrick Corbin, and he has a .352 wOBA against lefties this season.

No one doubts Adam Duvall’s power, and he is 7-for-17 with three home runs over his current five-game hitting streak.

Michael Brantley is 6-for-8 against Edinson Volquez, and 6-for-14 over his last four games.

Gerardo Parra is 7-for-18 against Jeff Samardzija and 6-for-16 over his last four games.

Ryan Braun is 3-for-5 with a home run against John Lamb, and 12-for-28 over the last week.

Darin Mastroianni led off Saturday for the Twins, and he could do so against another lefty Sunday. That has value, even for a mediocre hitter in a somewhat tough matchup.

Josh Reddick is 9-for-14 over his last three games, and you should play him now before his FanDuel and FantasyAces salaries catch up to his DraftKings salary.

Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco are 11-for-19 and 7-for-14 respectively against Michael Wacha.

Matt Holliday is 7-for-15 in his career against Gerrit Cole.
