Houston Astros at Atlanta Braves Predictions: Saturday, September 13th
Let’s start with an interleague matchup between the Astros and Braves. The starting pitchers in this Saturday night game can both anchor a low-scoring contest. Let’s go that way by grabbing the under in the full game and first five innings.
Astros starter Hunter Brown has been great all season with a 2.25 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He’s especially dominating lately, posting a 1.48 ERA over his past 8 starts. That includes two or fewer earned runs in eight straight outings coming into the weekend.
Brown boasts a 2.26 ERA and 2.80 FIP on the road this year. Plus, he’s allowed two or fewer earned runs in 12 of 15 road starts so far. The right-hander can keep it going today against a slumping Atlanta offense.
The Braves have notably struggled against right-handed pitching lately. In September, their .234 wOBA and 46 wRC+ vs. righties are both dead last in the majors. It’s a good spot for Brown to toss another strong outing.
Meanwhile, Atlanta starter Bryce Elder is pitching well right now. He owns a 1.37 ERA over his past four starts with a 21:5 K:BB ratio in this stretch. The righty also has a solid 3.24 FIP since the beginning of August (eight starts). Elder’s current form is a far cry from the guy who has a 5.35 ERA overall this season with multiple blowup outings.
Of course, there’s a chance Elder turns back into a pumpkin. Yet, these past four starts are encouraging that he’s turned a corner. Today, he’ll face a Houston offense that’s below-average against right-handers over the past week (.278 wOBA, 76 wRC+). Let’s count on the improved Elder to take advantage.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers Predictions: Saturday, September 13th
Despite a string of losses over the past two weeks, it’s “get-right” time for the Brewers. They’re back at home and get to face a Cardinals team that’s already looking ahead to next season. Let’s bank on a comfortable Milwaukee win on Saturday with a few notable edges.
Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski hasn’t been as dominant as he was a few months ago. Even so, he still boasts a 2.75 xERA and 3.13 FIP. Those numbers point to positive regression on his current 4.09 ERA. The rookie just tossed seven strong innings last time out with eight strikeouts and only one run allowed.
Misiorowski gets a favorable home matchup today, as the Cardinals have poor numbers vs. righties lately. In September, the they have a .217 batting average in the split (25th in MLB) with a .269 wOBA and 72 wRC+ (26th) as well. It’s a good spot for the Miz, who owns a 2.75 ERA and 2.46 FIP at home this year.
On the other side, count on run support from the Milwaukee offense in its own matchup. Cardinals starter Sonny Gray has gotten roughed up recently with a 6.31 ERA over his past 10 starts. That includes a 6.35 ERA and 5.08 FIP over his past 5 outings.
Gray now has to face a Brewers lineup that’s been tough on righties, with a 122 wRC+ (sixth) and .343 wOBA (seventh) in the split this month. Plus, Milwaukee scored six runs on eight hits against him back in May. It’s a tough spot for Gray, who has a poor 5.24 ERA on the road this year.
Back Milwaukee at home on Saturday after beating St. Louis, 8-2, last night. The Brewers are now 47-26 at home this season while the Cardinals are 31-42 on the road.
