Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox Predictions: Sunday, July 13th
The Boston Red Sox enter the All-Star break as one of the league’s hottest teams. They’re on a nine-game winning streak with a 12-2 record over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays are slumping with a 3-10 mark over their last 13 games. That includes three straight losses to Boston in this series already.Â
The Red Sox have the starting pitching edge today and the offensive firepower to complete the four-game sweep. Let’s break down this AL East matchup as the home favorites look to make it 10 straight wins.Â
Brayan Bello gets the start for Boston and he’s been pitching very well lately. The right-hander owns a 2.18 ERA over his last five games and a 2.83 ERA over his last nine outings. He just tossed a complete-game win with 10 strikeouts last time out. Bello has also recorded a quality start in six straight starts.Â
Tampa Bay’s offense has good splits against right-handed pitching overall this season. Yet, the lineup has been inconsistent recently. The Rays are averaging 2.8 runs per game over the past week. Bello, meanwhile, boasts a 2.33 ERA over his past four home appearances.Â
It’s also worth noting that Boston’s bullpen should have every top arm available with Garrett Crochet tossing a complete-game shutout yesterday. The Red Sox relievers have a collective 2.52 ERA in the month of July thus far.Â
On the other side, Ryan Pepiot starts for Tampa Bay. He has a solid 3.32 ERA this year and has been mostly effective lately. However, Boston is crushing right-handed pitching right now. Over the past two weeks vs. righties, the Red Sox have a .401 wOBA (1st in MLB), 155 wRC+ (1st), .318 BA (1st), .235 ISO (1st), and 17.2% K rate (4th).Â
This is a bad matchup for Pepiot, who has a 4.91 ERA in five career starts against the Sox. Plus, the Rays’ bullpen owns a 7.41 ERA over the past two weeks and a 6.11 ERA over the past week. Boston should provide enough run support for Bello here.
Take the Red Sox to win on the moneyline and lead after five innings. They’re 14-3 in the past 17 home games and have gone 7-2 against Tampa Bay so far this year. Conversely, the Rays are 3-9 in their last 12 road games.Â

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Minnesota Twins Predictions: Sunday, July 13th
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins wrap up their weekend series with an interesting pitching matchup on Sunday. We have Mitch Keller on the mound for Pittsburgh while Simeon Woods Richardson toes the rubber for Minnesota. This pair of starters should anchor a lower-scoring contest.Â
Keller is one of the top MLB trade deadline targets among starting pitchers, and it’s because he’s pitching very well recently. The Pirates’ right-hander owns a 2.45 ERA over his last six outings. He also has a 3.04 ERA over his past 11 starts, with nine quality starts in this stretch.Â
Keller doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, but his 5.7% walk rate (85th percentile) and 6.6% barrel rate (76th) allow him to be effective. The Twins have a dangerous offense, but they have some weak numbers against right-handed pitching lately. In July vs. righties, Minnesota has a .274 wOBA (27th in MLB), 72 wRC+ (27th), .218 BA (24th), 4.8% walk rate (30th), and 26.5% K rate (29th).Â
This is a favorable matchup for Keller, even on the road. He boasts a 3.09 ERA and .199 batting average allowed on the road this year. Plus, the Pittsburgh bullpen has a 2.38 ERA over the past two weeks. The Twins’ bats should be quieted, even after plating 12 runs yesterday.Â
As for Woods-Richardson, he comes in hot with a good matchup as well. The Twins’ righty has a 1.38 ERA over his last five starts and a 0.60 ERA over his last three outings. He also owns a 3.28 ERA and .224 BA allowed at home this season. That includes five shutout innings in both of his past two home starts.Â
Meanwhile, the Pirates are terrible against right-handed pitching. In the split overall this season, they have a .289 wOBA (29th in MLB) and 81 wRC+ (28th). Over the past week vs. righties, Pittsburgh has a .204 wOBA (30th), 24 wRC+ (30th), .165 batting average (30th), and 27.6% K rate (29th).Â
Behind Woods-Richardson is a Minnesota bullpen that boasts a 3.03 ERA and 3.01 FIP this month so far. It’s hard to imagine the Pirates scoring much today, especially since they’re averaging just 2.0 runs per game over the past week.Â
