Padres vs. Braves Predictions: Sunday, May 25th
The San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves wrap up their entertaining three-game series on Sunday afternoon. After the Padres won on Friday, the Braves took Saturday’s game. We have an intriguing starting pitching matchup today, so let’s break down how to bet on this one. Â
Braves starter Spencer Schwellenbach has had an up-and-down season with a 3.52 ERA, but there are encouraging signs to trust him today. He boasts an elite 4.8% walk rate (90th percentile) with a 32.3% chase rate (84th) and a 6.5% barrel rate (70th). The Braves’ right-hander also owns a 2.63 ERA at home compared to a 4.94 ERA on the road.Â
Schwellenbach should bounce back at home today after allowing four runs at Boston last time out. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of six home starts so far. The right-hander tossed six shutout innings against the Padres earlier this season. He also allowed just one run over seven innings in this matchup last year.Â
Meanwhile, the Padres have been one of the league’s worst offenses against right-handed pitching lately. Over the past week vs. righties, they have a .257 wOBA (29th in MLB), 64 wRC+ (29th), .202 batting average (28th), and 4.9% walk rate (29th). San Diego is also just league-average on the road this year (.308 wOBA, 94 wRC+).
On the other side, Padres starter Dylan Cease is off to a slow start with a 4.50 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He’s particularly struggled on the road with a 5.74 ERA compared to a 3.29 ERA at home. Cease’s 10.6% barrel rate (24th percentile) is a career-worst and his .408 expected slugging percentage is his highest since 2020.
Cease will take on a Braves offense that’s trending up lately, especially with Ronald Acuna now back in the lineup. Atlanta is averaging 6.2 runs over its last 10 games. Over the past week against right-handers, the offense boasts a .359 wOBA (6th), 129 wRC+ (6th), .283 BA (7th), 15.1% K rate (1st), and 12.3% walk rate (2nd).Â
It’s a tough matchup for Cease on the road here. The San Diego righty has just a 4.19 ERA in four career starts vs. the Braves. That includes five runs allowed on the road in Atlanta last year.Â
Take the Braves to win on the moneyline and lead after five innings. Atlanta took a 7-1 win yesterday and can carry that momentum into today. Acuna’s return cannot be overlooked as the former MVP has homered in back-to-back games since rejoining the lineup.Â

Brewers vs. Pirates Predictions: Sunday, May 25th
Let’s lead off today’s MLB picks with an NL Central showdown on Sunday afternoon. The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up their four-game series with an interesting matchup. The starting pitchers and respective offenses should lead to a lower-scoring contest.Â
Brewers rookie Logan Henderson owns an impressive 1.69 ERA, 2.58 FIP, and 0.81 WHIP through his first three starts. The upside has been on full display with an elite 39.0% strikeout rate and low 6.8% walk rate. Henderson was a high-strikeout pitcher in the minors and it’s carried over to the big-league level.Â
The Milwaukee starter can keep it going in a favorable matchup today. The Pirates have a bottom-tier offense vs. right-handed pitching with a .289 wOBA (29th in MLB), 79 wRC+ (28th), .223 batting average (29th), and .107 ISO (30th). Over the past two weeks, they have a .261 wOBA, 62 wRC+, and .204 BA against righties. The lineup is also striking out at a league-high 29.6% clip vs. right-handers during May.Â
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh lefty Bailey Falter can limit the scoring on his end as well. Falter is rolling lately with just one run allowed over his past four starts combined. He’s on a scoreless innings streak of 17.1 frames coming into today. The southpaw also boasts a 2.32 ERA at home this year compared to a 5.09 ERA on the road.Â
Falter will face a Brewers offense that’s notably struggled vs. left-handed pitching. Against southpaws in the month of May, the lineup has a .239 wOBA (29th in MLB), 47 wRC+ (29th), .177 batting average (29th), and 26.1% K rate (25th). Milwaukee has just a .275 wOBA and 71 wRC+ vs. lefties overall this season as well.Â
We should get some good outings from both Henderson and Falter to anchor a low-total game. Let’s definitely bet on the under for the first five innings. The full game under is also worth grabbing as long as the bullpens don’t blow it late.Â
