MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/7

Tigers vs. Rockies Predictions

Yesterday, I really liked this matchup for the Tigers, but the game was postponed, so why not go right back to the well? The Rockies are putting together something quite impressive and not in a good way right now as they are 6-28 on the season and have a run differential of -89 just 34 games in! That’s some legendary losing, so let’s go after them!

The first wager will be backing rookie pitching Jackson Jobe, who has played well overall with a 3.38 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. The only real issue has been the walks and lack of strikeouts. He has just 18 punchouts over 24 innings pitched, but I think he turns that around today against a Rockies team with the league’s highest K-rate against righties of 27.3%. Usually, this inflates the number of pitchers against them, but Jobe’s strikeout prop sits at just 4.5, and that’s very doable for him, so let’s lock that one in.

The next wager on this game is just fully backing the Tigers, who have won 7 of their last 10 games and are on a roll offensively. They’ll face Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander, who has had a tough season to say the least, with an ERA of 6.48 and 10 walks over 25 innings pitched. That could be an issue, seeing as the Tigers have a team walk rate of 9.5% against righties and have a .302 BABIP. This prop is inflated, unlike Jobe’s bet, and the run total for the Tigers sits at 5.5 runs. It's high, and I agree it may be an uncomfortable number, but this lineup is swinging the pole so well it’s a bet I have to make to the over.

  • Pick: Jackson Jobe (DET) Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-105 on DraftKings)
  • Pick: Tigers Team Total Over 5.5 Runs (-120 on DraftKings)

Blue Jays vs. Angels Predictions

The last game on the slate today is an interesting one to me as the Angels' offense is cooling off a bit of late, and the Blue Jays are due a bounce-back on the road as they’ve struggled on their side of things. The Angels started the season off like a house of fire, getting hits from all over the line,p but in the last 10 games, they’ve scored just 30 runs total, and they’ll now have to face off against Jose Berrios, who has pitched very well in his last 2 outings.

Berrios, in his last 12 innings pitched, has allowed just 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and collected 12 strikeouts. He will now turn his attention to an Angels team that ranks 2nd in MLB in team strikeout rate against righties at 26.1%! Berrios should have a field day in this spot as he is just a hair under a strikeout per inning, and he normally goes 6 innings, looking back through his game log. That makes his prop of 5.5 strikeouts a must bet on the over for me, and the fact that it’s plus money doesn’t hurt either.

In addition to betting on the pitcher, I like the Blue Jays overall tonight to win the game. I know they are 5-11 on the road this season, and they’ve had their issues scoring, but Yusei Kikuchi is a pitcher who lives on strikeouts. The Blue Jays just don’t swing and miss that often. They rank 25th in K-rate at 20.6% and will put the ball in play today. Behind the offense and Berrios, the Blue Jays will win tonight, take them on the Money Line.

  • Pick: Jose Berrios (TOR) Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+105 on DraftKings)
  • Pick: Blue Jays Money Line (-120 on DraftKings)
