It took a few articles but the first big betting day for me in the MLB went down on Friday night. My only complaint, were was Yordan Alvarez against the league's worst team in Oakland. I suppose that's just baseball but would've been nice to get the sweep. Happy Sunday either way and hopefully everyone is grilling up meats and enjoying the long holiday weekend, here's what I'm looking at for today's action!

  • Friday’s Record: 3-1
  • Season Record: 8-5-0
  • Bankroll: +0.88 units

We’ve got a full-slate of 15 games today with many getting started early afternoon so let's get to it!

MLB Best Bets for May 28

Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles

The Rangers and Orioles are two of the best storylines from the MLB so far this season as both teams look poised to make a run at the playoffs later in the summer. The pitching has been good enough but its been the offenses running the show so far. The Rangers score 6.41 runs per game which is the highest rate in the MLB this season and the Orioles aren't too far behind with 5.04 runs scored per game and that's the 6th highest rate. This has led to many of their games going over as you might expect as Texas has gone over in 61.2% of games and Baltimore has gone over in 55.1% of games. The pitching matchup should help things along on the over too as Kyle Bradish and Cody Bradford get starts this afternoon. Bradford will be the opener for the Rangers but his 10.8 ERA could get him into trouble quickly! Taking the game total to go over in this one.

Pick: Texas Rangers & Baltimore Orioles Over 9 Runs (-105 on Caesars)

Houston Astros at Oakland Athletics

With the Astros looking to close out their series in Oakland with a sweep we are getting some pretty chalky lines for today's game. I fully expect Houston to win but that will cost you -265 over at DraftKings and even the Run Line of -1.5 is a measly -155 for this matchup. I still want some exposure though so let's look at a pair of bets to be made in this game. Cristian Javier will start on the mound for the Astros and he is having a heck of a season so far. He has an ERA of 3.07 with a WHIP of 0.95 to go along with a 5-1 record to this point in the year. More recently he has allowed just 7 earned runs over the past 4 starts over 25 innings of work and allowed just 12 hits during that stretch. His strikeout prop sits at 6.5 today and I am leaning towards the over as the Athletics strikeout 9.48 times per game, the 4th highest rate in the MLB. Javier has topped this number in 2 of his last 4 starts too with a game of 11 and 8 strikeouts in each. I also want to add in another bet as Oakland as is scoring just 3.48 runs per game on the season. They have scored less than 3 runs in 8 of their last 9 games and their prop of team total runs in 2.5 today. That's a very low number normally but its the Athletics and they're a special kind of bad right now, take them under on the team total runs.

Pick: Cristian Javier Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125 on BetMGM)

Pick: Oakland Athletics Under 2.5 Runs (+110 on DraftKings)
