🔥 Best Matchups for Home Runs Today, 7/18: Ballpark Factors & Weather Impact
To expand on a huge afternoon slate, you’ll also need to check out our MLB weather report, especially with some warm and humid conditions in several ballparks. We’ll also point out that all three of the aforementioned Colorado, KC and Chicago stadiums are all featured in the earlier window for MLB home run picks.
We also said that new pitchers are toeing the rubber to exploit, which includes the likes of Rhett Lowder, Owen Murphy and Zack Littell. Of course, we’ll likely want to stay away from studs like Tarik Skubal and Jesus Luzardo, but beyond those starters are bullpen performances to check out. Similarly, hitter splits in terms of righties/lefties are also a must.
Along with underlying metrics like expected slugging and performances against specific pitch types, there is plenty that you’ll see when breaking down our top MLB home run picks today.
JJ Bleday (+377)
With the wind not blowing directly out and a very real chance of a rain delay at Wrigley Field today, it’s actually Coors Field that takes the cake in terms of top spots for homers. That’s par for the course, and frankly, we love Mickey Moniak once again with the Cincinnati Reds starting Rhett Lowder - a righty great for MLB home run picks.
Please do lock him in as the most valuable pick on Colorado given Hunter Goodman’s odds in the +100’s, but we know that seeing the same name on back-to-back days can be off-putting for some fans out there. No problem - Colorado starter Tomoyuki Sugano is another awful righty. He’s got a massive lefty problem, allowing a .581 slugging and .916 OPS.
That sets up beautifully for the Reds left fielder, so we’re leading off our best MLB home run picks for today with JJ Bleday hitting a HR (+377 at Novig).
Munetaka Murakami (+325)
We’re going to swap to a spot that may not be on the top of everyone’s list today given the stadiums on the menu, but we’re going north of the border. Despite being indoors, we do still need to keep an eye on Toronto in terms of air quality (for fans - they do need to walk in and out), but we love the White Sox for MLB home run picks.
After all, they already teed off in Toronto last night, and now, the Blue Jays are starting Shane Bieber. He’s been getting teed off on since making his season debut on June 23. In his four starts, he’s allowed at least one homer and there’s another guy who recently returned who is due for a monster longball.
He was also just in the Home Run Derby, so we’re going to add to our best MLB home run picks for today with Munetaka Murakami hitting a HR (+325 at bet365).
Shohei Ohtani (+245)
That’s right - the best player in the world is rounding out our top three! He’s our chalk pick of the day, but hey, getting the generational talent at anything better than around +210 is valuable at this point. We saw teammate Max Muncy blast a game-winning two-run shot, and Yankee Stadium remains great for MLB home run picks and this lefty.
The opportunity for a leadoff jack after targeting afternoon games is also ideal, and New York is starting Ryan Weathers. That makes this a lefty-on-lefty crime, and unlike most southpaw starters, fellow lefties are actually hitting Weathers BETTER than righties! That’s a scary proposition when facing the Japanese superstar.
It’s not often a spot worthwhile value-wise, but today, we’re adding to our top MLB home run picks with Shohei Ohtani hitting a HR (+245 at FanDuel).
