🔥 Best Matchups for Home Runs Today, 8/26: Ballpark Factors & Weather Impact

Those are the three names, and more names will be spit out from our HR tool, but there is a lot that goes into actually deciding on our top MLB home run picks. Speaking of tools, our MLB weather report is one that you’ll also want to check out as a strong starting point. Speaking of starting, the starting pitchers are the next factor we break down.

That means their righty/lefty splits, home/road splits, expected slugging and ISO allowed, pitch mix and more. Hitters have some of the same factors to consider plus barrel rates, hard-hit rates, launch angles and more. Bullpens also have to be taken into consideration, and you’ll see even more factors as we break down each of our MLB home run predictions individually below!

CJ Abrams (+340)

It’s not quite time for our favorite Colorado trifecta, but just so that it doesn't get beaten to death more than we already do, we’ll just let you know that we like the game involving the Rockies today. It’s not even at Coors Field, but Washington is quite hitter-friendly as well. MLB home run picks also get a boost with Tanner Gordon on the mound.

Had Kyle Freeland not been on the IL, we could have had a switch-up spot this series with someone like Dylan Crews, but we just can’t ignore a lefty vs. Gordon. The Rockies righty has an embarrassing .290 ISO vs. southpaws, while Abrams mashes righties to the tune of a monster .276 ISO!

All that translates to this: expect a ton of power in the nation’s capital as we cash another one of our MLB home run picks with CJ Abrams hitting a HR (+340 at ProphetX).

Matt Olson (+405)

As you’ve seen, we’re sticking with the left side of the dish, and while Abrams is looking for homer #30, Olson is looking to catch Kyle Schwarber for the league lead. He’s facing a righty as well, but this time, a more well-known one: Roki Sasaki. While that may cause some hesitation locking this in as part of today’s MLB home run picks, it shouldn’t.

Sasaki may be better known than the aforementioned Gordon, but he’s still allowed 21 homers this season. That’s less surprising when we tell you that he’s in the upper tier of HR/FB ratios among qualified starters, and Olson crushes righties with not only an already-amazing .294 ISO, but it’s also a .305 expected ISO!

Righty vs. righty action also works vs. Sasaki, so consider an Acuna value play, but we’re adding to our best MLB home run picks for today with Matt Olson hitting a HR (+405 at ProphetX).

Samuel Basallo (+570)

Talk about a guy who needs to bounce back from last night. After having Monday off, the O’s young, future catcher went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts, but thankfully for him, his biggest issue isn’t really an issue with Michael McGreevy on the mound. He’s regressed to his expected metrics, which is great news for MLB home run picks.

Baltimore bats don’t often make our list (Pete Alonso is making us pay for that), but while Basallo has a chase-rate issue, he has great barrel and hard-hit rates. Those are paired with a 91.1 mph average exit velocity, which has helped him hit righty change-ups well this season, which is what McGreevy likes to throw vs. southpaws.

Along with McGreevy’s .225 expected ISO allowed to lefties, we’re going to round out our top three MLB home run picks for today with Samuel Basallo hitting a HR (+570 at ProphetX).
