🔥 Best Matchups for Home Runs Today, 8/24: Ballpark Factors & Weather Impact
We also promised to share the “why” behind our MLB home run picks, and the first factor we consider before the players themselves is the weather, which is why you always want to have our MLB weather report bookmarked. This will help us avoid games with serious postponement concerns and check on other aspects like wind so that we can dive into the guys on the diamond.
In that regard, we begin with the starting pitchers that will be allowing the MLB home run predictions in terms of their righty/lefty splits, slugging and ISO allowed, hard-hit rates, and more. Hitters have much of the same metrics, including barrel rates and even launch-angle sweet-spot rates for us to consider.
Along with the bullpens that we’ll see on the mound, there is a ton that goes into making sure that you have the best MLB home run picks for today!
Seiya Suzuki (+530)
It didn’t take us long to circle the first spot on the board that we wanted to target for dingers. That’s because we saw that Merrill Kelly was starting for the Arizona Diamondbacks, so not only were we locked in at that point, but we also saw that he was going to have to deal with the Chicago Cubs. That’s a lineup with great targets for MLB home run picks.
While the matchup isn’t at windy Wrigley Field, we still like targeting Arizona, and we also won’t have to worry about that wind blowing in to have the opposite effect of what we’re looking for. Regardless, it doesn’t take much to blast off against Kelly’s 7.23 xERA, including right-handed hitters like Suzuki.
He didn’t go yard like PCA in the Cubs’ 19-run onslaught yesterday, but we still love seeing 15 of his 22 homers coming off righties. So, we’re leading off our best MLB home run picks for today with Seiya Suzuki hitting a HR (+530 at ProphetX).
Kody Clemens (+447)
Well, the next spot that we circled took less than two seconds to find after targeting Kelly, as Jeffrey Springs is back on the menu. While he no longer leads the league in homers allowed after missing almost three weeks, he can certainly get that title back. That’s because MLB home run picks are fantastic for a series at Sutter Health Park.
We’ve noted the Triple-A spot time and time again, so not much needs to be said on that front. When it comes to the opponent today, the Minnesota Twins have a notable name for homers in Byron Buxton as well as under-the-radar guys like Ryan Jeffers and even others in between. Another one worth noting is Royce Lewis.
We’ve decided to lock this in as a lefty-on-lefty crime by adding to our best MLB home run picks today with Kody Clemens hitting a HR (+447 at DraftKings).
Colson Montgomery (+405)
Honestly, we could very, very easily just talk about the Twins bat, as nearly everyone in their lineup has a better spot than entire other teams on this small slate. However, we actually do see value in other spots. We’ll fully admit that this is a hitter that can be very boom or bust, but when it comes to MLB home run picks, that’s really all we’re asking for.
The White Sox shortstop is taking on Kumar Rocker, who has a major lefty power problem. He may be largely known as a ground-ball, low-K pitcher, but this year, he’s allowed a .203 ISO to lefties. Paired with that is Montgomery’s .204 ISO vs. righties. His issue is whiffing, but that’s not where Rocker excels, so he can bounce back from 0-for-4 yesterday.
He’s just three homers away from a 30-homer season, so let’s see a step towards that mark by cashing one of our MLB home run picks with Colson Montgomery hitting a HR (+405 at ProphetX).
