It’s a tidy five-game slate for the main slate tonight with no real weather concerns on the slate either with the remnants of the hurricane no longer a factor in the northeast. With it being a smaller slate, it’s key to hit the correct pitchers so let’s talk about who we’re liking tonight.
Top Tier
Shane McClanahan, TB - McClanahan has been good at home and had a good start against Boston the last time he faced them. Mix that with the fact that the Red Sox have been subpar against southpaws in wOBA and wRC+ the last few weeks. He’s the top priced option on the slate but there’s still a chance he doesn’t get that many strikeouts with Boston striking out less 20-percent against lefties recently.
Triston McKenzie, CLE - In the last four starts for McKenzie, he’s allowed six total earned runs in 28 innings. He’s also posted 28 Ks and went seven innings three times in those four starts. McKenzie has shut down the Royals’ offense three times already over 15.2 innings with 19 strikeouts with one ER allowed.
Mid-Tier
Touki Toussaint, ATL - Toussaint has been a shut down pitcher outside of Atlanta this year and even though it’s Coors, the Rockies’ offense still hasn’t been great recently even at home. Over his last five starts, 23 innings, he’s allowed just seven total earned runs as well and will try and keep the sub-2.30 ERA going against a subpar Rockies team tonight.
Value Tier
Keegan Thompson, CHC - We’ve got to find value somewhere tonight and while Thompson hasn’t been much to watch on the mound this year, he’s been good against the Pirates who are still woefully terrible on offense. It’s gross I know, but if he goes five innings he should be in line for a win and that’s a free bonus at this price point.
