I'm back for Friday's edition of the DFS NHL Optimal Lineups! We have a decent four-game slate, but also have an odd situation where the Islanders and Panthers are going to be playing their 2nd game in as many nights.
We will be keeping it simple for the playoffs, posting just one DraftKings cash lineup and one FanDuel cash lineup.
Lineups were posted around 4:00 PM ET. Please check back closer to roster lock to see if any changes were made.
I will breakdown a few of the matchups tonight:
Detroit vs. Tampa Bay
The benefit of playing DFS after Game 1 is that you're able to see some of the line matchups, and see who won the possession battles. I have been a big advocate for using Corsi numbers throughout the season, and that doesn't change tonight. The two lines to target are going to be DET1 and TB1.
Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Abdelkader controlled the puck possession battle throughout the game against the Filppula line. Datsyuk, in particular, had seven shots on goal, and didn't get much puck luck against Ben Bishop. I think they rebound tonight, and even have Detroit winning this game.
On the other end, the Killorn-Johnson-Kucherov line did a heck of a job against Larkin-Richards-Helm. If you're doing GPPs, I'd definitely stay away from this line though. They don't get beyond 17 minutes of ice time, and it's a bit of a stretch for them to break out for another three goals. I'm also going to fade them in cash games. I think Kucherov is the guy to use in cash, but I find him way too expensive.
NY Islanders vs. Florida
Nine goals were scored last night in Sunrise, but it would have been much less if Roberto Luongo was able to stop any pucks. He allowed five goals on 26 shots while his counterpart, Thomas Greiss, allowed four goals on 46 shots. Those shot numbers are no mistake. The Panthers killed the puck possession game. Out of the seven playoff games that have been played, this one had the most lopsided Corsi numbers.
While there's a possibility that the Islanders continue to shred Luongo, I can't get myself to go that route in cash games. I'd consider Brock Nelson in cash on DK if you really want to.
For Florida, I like both their 1st and 2nd lines, with the edge going to Barkov's line. How Barkov didn't score last night, I will never know, but I am willing to guarantee you that it changes tonight. I think he's a lock for at least two points. Reilly Smith had two goals and an assist on eight shots last night. He's going to have some high ownership, but I would keep my expectations a bit low for him tonight.
Chicago vs. St. Louis
The Hawks, by far, had the upperhand in Game 1, and I don't see them losing tonight in St. Louis.
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane absolutely embarassed the Backes line in the possession game, yet, came out scoreless against Brian Elliott who seemed to have a horseshoe up his butt. I need exposure to this line (preferrably Panarin or Kane). They are absolutely going to score tonight.
Ladd-Toews-Hossa also had the upperhand on the Stastny line. I don't think it's as necessary to roster them, but Hossa is such a bargain on all of the sites.
Duncan Keith also makes his return after sitting out six games due to a suspension.
Nashville vs. Anaheim
I actually have this game as a bit of a wild card. I do think the Ducks should be able to win this game at Honda Center, where they've played extremely well all season, but it's hard for me to trust any of the forward lines.
The Ducks have multiple players coming back from some extended injuries, and that doesn't exactly work well when you have the added intensity of playoff hockey. Still, Perron and Rakell will be mixed into lines with Getzlaf and Perry, which should help.
Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg will take either Johansen or Forsberg's lines, but I don't mind it either way, because I like Kesler's end no matter what. They are extremely good two-way hockey players, and will control the possession battles night in and night out. They are the only Ducks line that doesn't have guys coming back from injuries.
