PGA DFS Coverage for the U.S. Open

After the completion of the Canadian national championship last week, the PGA Tour heads to Brookline, Massachusetts for the United States championship. It’ll be a huge weekend in the Boston area from the NBA Finals to a Red Sox week long homestand. The 122nd edition of the U.S. Open comes to The Country Club for the first time since 1988 and hosts this major championship for the fifth time. It is regarded as the best course in the state of Massachusetts and has a storied history.

The Field: U.S. Open

Defending champion Jon Rahm headlines a field of 156 golfers.  Despite all the controversy after last week’s LIV debut event, we’ve got a loaded field of players. You will see golfers from both the PGA Tour and LIV Tour participate at this major championship. If you don’t like the fact that the LIV Tour players are in the mix, give the USGA a call because it was their decision. You could tell during Phil Mickelson’s press conference on Monday that he was uncomfortable and unsettled with the decision of the PGA Tour to suspend him. He feels as if he’s earned a lifetime tour card but that does not seem to be the case. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods turned down a massive deal from the LIV Tour but did decide to sit out this weekend and rest up for next month’s Open Championship at St. Andrews.

The Course: The Country Club

The Country Club in Brookline was originally established in 1882 and over those 140 years, it has played host to some of the most memorable moments in golf history. It started in 1913 when a 20-year-old caddie named Francis Ouimet won the tournament as an amateur. That story inspired a 2005 movie starring Shia LaBeouf called “The Greatest Game Ever Played”. The course has hosted four U.S. Opens, six U.S. Amateurs, three U.S. Women’s Amateurs and a Ryder Cup. The 1999 Ryder Cup featured the legendary 45-foot made putt on number 17 by Justin Leonard to clinch the title for the Americans. The Country Club will play as a Par 70, stretches out 7,264 yards and features poa annua greens. You will see extremely fairways, high thick rough, and some of the smallest greens you’ve ever seen. Precise ball striking will be at a premium this weekend in Massachusetts.

The Weather: Brookline, Massachusetts

The temperatures will be in the high 70's and low 80's throughout the weekend in Brookline. It looks like we may avoid any major weather concerns. There is a slight chance of rain in the afternoon Friday but it’s less than a 50-percent chance. Hitting these very small greens will be made more difficult with winds expected to be in the mid teens throughout the weekend. You never want to see a major decided by the weather and it does not look like it’ll be that way this weekend.
