Preseason Action from Saturday, August 25

Chicago Bears defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20:

  • Chase Daniel started for the Bears with Mitchell Trubisky getting the night off and he looked great. He finished 15-of-18 for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball six times for an additional 47 yards.
  • Kevin White caught a touchdown for the first time in his professional career.
  • Patrick Mahomes had a nice night, finishing 18-of-24 with 196 passing yards and a touchdown. He also added in 11 yards on the ground on two attempts.
  • Kareem Hunt only managed seven yards on three carries, but he did catch one pass for 19 yards and a touchdown.
  • Tyreek Hill was in regular season form, he caught eight passes for 88 yards.
  • Sammy Watkins ’ rough preseason continued, he only had one reception for 15 yards.

Los Angeles Rams were winners over the Houston Texans 21-20:

  • Rookie back John Kelly likely leapfrogged Malcolm Brown for backup duties. Kelly has been electric all preseason and that was once again the case in this one, he had 15 carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Brown finished with six carries for 11 yards.
  • Pharoh Cooper is fourth in the Rams pecking order for targets, but he helped his cause with this game, catching three passes for 22 yards and a score.
  • Deshaun Watson was only on the field for a handful of series, but they did not go well for the second year QB. He finished 3-of-6 for 15 yards and he threw an interception.
  • Braxton Miller had three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. Miller is battling Bruce Ellington to be third option in the Texans passing game; he helped his cause in this one.

Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Tennessee Titans 16-6:

  • Ben Roethlisberger completed 11-of-18 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.
  • James Conner struggled on the ground to the tune of 10 carries for 18 yards, but he did catch six passes for 52 yards.
  • JuJu Smith-Schuster had six receptions for 46 yards.
  • Marcus Mariota had five completions on eight attempts, but was intercepted one time.
  • Derrick Henry only managed to gain 12 yards on five carries.
  • Corey Davis failed to haul in either pass that he was targeted on. Davis is determined to be the Titans number one receiver and he has the talent to do so. There is a lot of hype around him heading into this year, but can Mariota and the Titans offense provide what he needs to be top receiver in fantasy?

Indianapolis Colts were victorious over the San Francisco 49ers 23-17:

  • Andrew Luck likely raised his ADP a bit with a 8-of-10, 90 yard, one touchdown showing.
  • Marlon Mack likely locked himself into the lead back role, despite not playing. Rookies Jordan Wilkins – 14 carries for 28 yards – and Nyheim Hines – five carries for 0 yards – were miserable in this one. Christian Michael also didn’t look good, finishing with eight carries for nine yards.
  • Eric Ebron had five receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo was an inefficient 9-of-19, but did manage a solid 135 passing yards on those nine completions.
  • Alfred Morris had 17 carries for 84 yards, likely locking himself into somewhat of a role to start the year. Don’t get too excited though, he’s still at the very least behind Jerick McKinnon .
  • Marquise Goodwin had three receptions for 40 yards and continues to look like a strong breakout candidate this year.

Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Atlanta Falcons 17-6:

  • Blake Bortles was 17-of-23 for 204 yards, but also was intercepted twice. A bit of a mixed bag.
  • Leonard Fournette looked great, he had 10 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 18 yards. He looks primed to be even more of a bell cow back this year than he was last year.
  • Donte Moncrief had three receptions for 62 yards.
  • Matt Ryan struggled through the air; he only completed 5-of-12 passes for 57 yards.
  • Tevin Coleman had seven carries for 38 yards.
  • Rookie Calvin Ridley only had one reception for 12 yards.

Baltimore Raves beat the Miami Dolphins 27-10:

  • Lamar Jackson completed 7-of-10 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. He also had three rushes for 39 yards and a touchdown. Pretty strong game from the rookie and it had him feeling confident, after the game he said “I hope people know I can throw now.” He won’t start for the Ravens right away, but he will be a fantasy star the moment he takes Flacco’s job.
  • Alex Collins only had one carry, but he took it for a solid seven yard gain.
  • Rookie backs De’Lance Turner and Mark Thompson had nice games as they try and secure a spot on the team’s final roster. Turner had five carries for 75 yards and a touchdown, while Thompson had four carries for 17 yards and also caught three passes for an additional 25 yards.  Kenneth Dixon could end up be a surprise cut by the Ravens as he struggled to the tune of five carries for two yards and has dealt with multiple injuries in his brief career.
  • Ryan Tannehill finished 11-of-16 for 115 yards and a touchdown.
  • Kenyan Drake had four carries for 32 yards and also caught one pass for 36 more yards. The Dolphins need to just stop this silly timeshare nonsense they keep talking about between Drake and Frank Gore , who by the way had one carry for -2 yards.
  • Danny Amendola had two receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown.

New Orleans Saints crushed the Los Angeles Chargers 36-7:

  • Drew Brees finished 7-of-9 for 59 yards, but tossed an interception.
  • Alvin Kamara had four carries for 16 yards and a score. He also caught one pass for 10 yards.
  • Michael Thomas finished with two receptions for 29 yards.
  • Philip Rivers was an efficient 5-of-7, but only managed 29 passing yards.
  • Austin Ekeler was explosive in this one, finishing with 50 yards on the ground on only six carries, he also caught three passes for 13 more yards.
  • Mike Williams had just one reception for 13 yards.
