10-Team Leagues

Kendrys Morales , TOR 1B (63% ownership), FAAB Bid - $17-18 - I’ve mentioned Morales a few times recently, but it was before this insane streak he went on. He broke the Blue Jays record for most consecutive games with a home run (seven) and hit eight over that span as well. Despite the crazy stretch, he still only has 21 homers on the year. Morales is, however, someone who has hit 30 home runs in a season before, so if he continues his recent ways in September, he could end up with 30 by year’s end.

Clay Buchholz , ARI SP (71% ownership), FAAB Bid - $15-16 - If we’re being honest, Buchholz has been one of the better pitchers in baseball in the month of August. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in back-to-back starts and has only allowed one over his last 23 innings. He doesn’t have elite strikeout numbers, but he has six wins over his last eight starts to make up for the lack of K’s. His 2.07 ERA and 1.02 WHIP is in play everywhere and should be owned going forward in any format imaginable.

Ian Desmond , COL 1B, OF (76% ownership), FAAB Bid - $12 - Desmond hasn’t been great this year, yet still has 20 home runs, 15 stolen bases and 74 runs batted in. Just over the last two weeks, Desmond has driven in 15 runs which ranks second amongst all players in baseball. The production remains despite the low average. The multi-position eligibility is also a bonus and if somehow his average rises, he could be an elite pickup for the remainder of the year.

12-Team Leagues

Amed Rosario , NYM SS (29% ownership), FAAB Bid - $10-11 - Rosario has been really impressive since taking over the leadoff spot in the Mets lineup. Just over the last two weeks Rosario has hit .328 and has swiped three bags. He also happens to lead the league in runs scored over that span and now that Brandon Nimmo is back in the Mets lineup, that number could grow even more. Rosario should be owned and considered a top-15 shortstop for the remainder of the year.

Jonathan Villar , BAL 2B, OF (45% ownership), FAAB Bid - $10 - Villar has been a very valuable commodity in fantasy leagues everywhere of late. He’s swiped a bag in three straight games and six total over 10 games. He’s hit 20 stolen bases before September, so with a good month he could potentially end with 30. He gained outfield eligibility making him a little more valuable than he already was.

Wei-Yin Chen , MIA SP (3% ownership), FAAB Bid - $8-10 - Chen doesn’t have great numbers and that’s apparent, but August has been good to him. His last start he shut out the Braves and struck out a season-high 10. He’s actually allowed two runs or fewer in four straight starts and has clearly found his groove. The only issue with Chen is the fact that he plays for the Marlins and won’t be in line for many wins for the remainder of the year.

15-Team Leagues

Lucas Giolito , CWS SP (23% ownership), FAAB Bid - $8-10 - We’ve finally started to see the prospect we’d all hope we would when he was first brought up to the major’s in August. Although his ERA on the month is still above four, he’s notched a 9.29 K/9 and his xFIP is 3.53, which is showing us he’s been more unlucky this month than anything. Most likely because he’s playing for the White Sox. Playing for the White Sox and the sample size prior to August tells us he’s not worth owning in a ton of formats.

Luke Voit , NYY 1B (19% ownership), FAAB Bid - $6-7 - It must be bad for Greg Bird if Luke Voit is taking his playing time, but Voit has actually played really well of late. Over his last 10 games, Voit is slashing .414/.469/.724 with three home runs and nine runs batted in. Voit is hitting in the heart of the Yankees order these days, but with Greg Bird still lurking it’s hard to trust him in anything more than deeper formatted leagues.

Dansby Swanson , ATL SS (20% ownership), FAAB Bid - $5 - The power surge lately has been nice, but it’s not something we should continue to expect to happen. He does have a .473 SLG this month and a season high five homers so he is flashing some upside. Swanson has been pretty good lately posting at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games. He shouldn’t be trusted in much more than 15-team formats.
