Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and others who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Justin Williams - Carolina Hurricanes - Winger

Welcome back to the NHL, Justin Williams! After taking half the season to decide whether or not he wanted to return to the Hurricanes, the veteran forward is back, and he’s making an impact. He has two goals in as many games, and is seeing top power play minutes. The downside here is he’s skating on the fourth line, but do we really expect him to play there for the remainder of the season? If he continues to defy father time, he could find himself skating in the top-6 in no time. If you are desperate for some help up front, Williams is an excellent boom-or-bust add.

Jaccob Slavin - Carolina Hurricanes - Defence

Sticking with the Hurricanes, Jaccob Slavin is an interesting player to target if he’s still on the waiver wire. With Dougie Hamilton pretty much out for the remainder of the season, Slavin is now the quarterback on the top power play unit and he’s starting to see an increase in ice time. Jake Gardiner has been a flaming pile of garbage since the beginning of the year, and the rest of their defence isn’t talented to steal minutes away from Slavin. His point totals aren’t going to wow you, but he’s doing everything else really well, including blocking shots. The 25-year-old is only 58% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so there’s a chance he’s still there just waiting for a fantasy owner to claim him.

Tanner Pearson - Vancouver Canucks - Winger

I have been asleep on Tanner Pearson since the beginning of the season, so when I saw that he has 37-points in 49-games, my jaw almost hit the ground. The 27-year-old had a total of 18-goals last season between Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Vancouver. His career high in points is 44, set back in 2016-17, and he’s well on pace to surpass that total this season. Despite all this success, he’s only 39% owned. The Canucks are a serious contender to win the division, and I do believe that Pearson will continue to rack up points. If you need some scoring up front, he should be your main target.

Zach Parise - Minnesota Wild - Winger

The Minnesota Wild are terrible at scoring goals, but if one player can help them in that category, it’s Zach Parise. The veteran forward has 19-goals this season and is on pace for over 30. He’s not the player he once was, but he continues to see top power play minutes and is a staple on the second line. In fantasy hockey leagues where goals are important, the 35-year-old has no difficulty filling the back of the net, but he is inconsistent, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. In his last five games, Parise has six points, so his hot streak might be starting. If he can stay healthy until the end of the season, he could produce at a point-per-game pace. That’s the kind of production that can help you win a championship.

Jared McCann - Pittsburgh Penguins - Winger/Center

It’s no secret that the Pittsburgh Penguins are short bodies up front, and that has forced them to move Jared McCann to the wing, but that may not be such a terrible thing. The 23-year-old has 28-points in 48-games and is currently playing on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust. That line has the potential to do some serious damage, and I want to make sure I get in on that action. Alex Galchenyuk hasn’t been able to seize that role, and Dominik Kahun is out of the lineup due to a concussion, so no one is going to steal his spot anytime soon. To top it all off, MaCann has dual position eligibility. He’s been quiet of late, causing his ownership to drop by 6%, but that only makes me want to talk about him more. Don’t make the same mistakes everyone else is making-- pick him up off the waiver wire!
