The move saves Jacksonville roughly $3.7 million against the cap. Swaim's lone season with the Jaguars was an utter disaster as he suffered a concussion in Week 6 and was never heard from again, ultimately finishing with 13/65 receiving. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Patrick Mahomes' 10-year contract is worth $503 million and includes $477 million in "guaranteed mechanisms."
It's still a 10-year extension, but the new numbers are far better for Mahomes than initially reported. It makes him the first American athlete to sign a contract worth a half billion dollars, and the reported "guarantees" went from $140 million to $477 million. The fine details of this will be confusing, likely containing options, rolling guarantees, and other fancy agent lingo. The bottom line is the quarterback market is finally catching up to a quarterback's true on-field worth. Mahomes will be making $50 million annually for the next decade plus, a cool $15 million more than Russell Wilson. It's certainly a gamble worth taking for the Chiefs, as Mahomes is on an unprecedented early-career trajectory.

Chiefs signed Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year, $450 million contract extension.
It's the largest contract in American sports history, although Mike Trout's 12-year, $426.5 million contract had far more guaranteed -- Mahomes' injury guarantee is "only" $140 million. Mahomes' $45 million annual contract value is $10 million more than Russell Wilson's. All things considered, this still is a pretty good deal for the Chiefs. They get a decade's worth of team control over the best player in the NFL, and the end of Mahomes' contract could be a great value because it is not tied to the salary cap as was first reported. With that said, it's likely that Mahomes renegotiates this contract after the guarantees run out. Only 24 years old, Mahomes already has a Super Bowl and regular-season MVP under his belt. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported the deal is actually worth $503 million with $477 million in guaranteed "mechanisms". It's unclear how much money Mahomes signed for. We just know it's rightfully a lot.

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes Patrick Mahomes' contract will be tied to a percentage of the salary cap.
By the end of a long-term deal, players can end up playing on a contract that is well below their true market value because the salary cap increased faster than their originally signed contract. It's a problem that only would be magnified during Mahomes' reported 12-year contract extension. Players and agents have asked for their pay to be tied to the salary cap before, but teams have not given in because they like certainty when it comes to roster building. Mahomes' on-field play gives him unprecedented leverage, however, so the Chiefs may give into his demands. We should learn the fine details of the contract shortly, but Schefter reports it will be over $400 million in total.

Chiefs signed QB Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year extension through 2031.
Ten-year contracts are literally unheard of in the NFL, but if anybody is worth one, it's certainly last year's Super Bowl MVP. Turning 25 in September, Mahomes won the regular-season MVP award in 2018, leading the league with 50 touchdown passes. He took a step back from a statistical perspective last year, but Mahomes put the team on his back when it mattered most in the playoffs, leading multiple postseason comebacks en route to the Chiefs' first Super Bowl title since 1969. Mahomes is on the fast track of becoming the best quarterback in history. The Chiefs had just one player signed through 2024 -- K Harrison Butker -- and Mahomes is inked seven years past that. He's tied to Kansas City through his age-36 season.

The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports coach Adam Gase wanted the Jets to trade S Marucs Maye prior to the start of last season.
Mehta reports Gase was later "convinced" to keep Maye, but GM Joe Douglas has also been fielding offers for Maye for the better part of a year. The 27-year-old is headed into the final year of his rookie deal and isn't believed to be in the team's long-term plans, as the Jets prefer to extend Jamal Adams and just took S Ashtyn Davis in the third round of April's draft. Maye isn't the level of player Adams is, but he's a solid safety and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 25 safety last year. Maye has just four career interceptions and two forced fumbles to go with 0.5 sacks. He simply hasn't been a playmaker on the football.

NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports David Njoku remains a "big part" of the Browns' plans for 2020.
But Anderson does note Njoku has long "wanted out" of Cleveland. The former 29th overall pick in the 2017 draft took a major year-two leap in 2018 to post a 56-639-4 line, but he ended up breaking his thumb last Week 1, missed 12 games, and was targeted just 10 times across four appearances en route to a pitiful 5-41-1 season. He was also benched at times. A true freak athlete -- in a good way -- Njoku has all the potential in the world at 6'4/246. The Browns have already signaled Njoku isn't in their long-term plans with the signing of Austin Hooper and draft selection of Harrison Bryant. Everyone should be rooting for Njoku to be dealt.
