2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Fairbanks led Rays relievers with a career high 25 saves but had to do it in between IL stints (forearm inflammation, hip). His walk rate which had been a career low 1.1/BB/9 in 2022 increased to 4.0 BB/9, which is closer to his career norm.

2024 Outlook: The Rays, who had been notorious in the past for using a closer by committee approach to managing their bullpen, but Fairbanks has settled in as the team’s primary closer. He has spent time on the IL in each of the past three seasons, but when healthy he’s been a dominant closer. He’s a good option if you wait until the later rounds to draft your closer but unfortunately you should probably expect him to miss some time due to injury based on his recent history.
