2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Phillips was exceptional for the Dodgers last season, as he converted 24-of-27 save opportunities while posting a 2.05 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and .177 BAA. His sweeper posted a .111 BAA and 42.1 percent whiff rate, and his adjusted pitch mix has him leaning on his sweeper and sinker more, in exchange for a reduced usage of his four-seamer. He generated a 78th percentile chase rate and 73rd percentile whiff rate last season, while also generating a quality 88th percentile walk rate.

2024 Outlook: As a closer, it's imperative to not put yourself in harm's way, and Phillips does a great job of that. The Dodgers had been all around the reliever market, but with no significant signings or acquisitions, they seem more than content heading into 2024 with Phillips as the team's primary closer. And, honestly, they should feel safe. The Dodgers are going to win a lot of games this year, and probably a good bit by a good margin, but Phillips should get to right around 30 saves while providing elite ratios from a fantasy closer. So long as no outside competition is added, Phillips is a top-12 fantasy closer that sometimes falls outside of the top 15 at the position.
