W. Harris - RP
Harris struck out one in a scoreless inning Monday against the Pirates.
Harris was delayed this spring after undergoing hernia surgery during the offseason and is ramping up for the start of the season. He appeared in five spring games (4.1 IP) and will slot into a middle relief role for the Astros.
Added 7:03 am (EST)
T. Kemp - LF
Kemp started in center field and went 1-for-1 with a double and two walks in Monday's game against the Pirates.
With Josh Reddick (back) unavailable, manager AJ Hinch had George Springer move to right field and Kemp took Springer's spot in center. The manager is concerned about Reddick's availability for Opening Day, per Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, so Kemp may be in line for regular at-bats early in the season.
Added 6:59 am (EST)
E. Santana - SP
Santana allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings Monday against Arizona.
This was Santana's second start against major-league competition and significant because he reached five innings. As the White Sox's fifth starter, Santana is not needed until April 10, so he'll likely stay back in camp and throw a few more sessions to get the pitch count and innings up.
Added 6:49 am (EST)
D. Palka - LF
Palka started in right field and went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.
The White Sox have a few moving pieces before they settle on a starting outfield. John Jay (hip/back) was out of the lineup, giving Palka a starting opportunity and a chance to hit his first home run of the spring. Management is expected to set its Opening Day roster after Tuesday's exhibition game and has to make some decisions. In addition to Jay's injury, the White Sox will decide if Eloy Jimenez opens in Chicago and on a starter in center field (Leury Garcia or Adam Engel). If the Jay injury lingers or manager Rick Renteria can't trust him to be an everyday player, then Palka has a path to playing time.
Added 6:43 am (EST)
L. García - LF
Garcia started in center field and hit leadoff, going 0-for-1 with a walk and run scored in Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.
All spring it was presumed Adam Engel would be the starter in center field, and he could be come Opening Day, but Garcia's boffo spring has put himself into the mix. He leads the White Sox during spring training with a .431 average (22-for-51) to go with six extra-base hits and eight RBI.
Added 6:34 am (EST)
R. Stephenson - RP
Stephenson allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over two innings Monday against the Braves, Ben Weinrib of MLB.com reports.
Stephenson is battling for the final two bullpen spots for the Reds along with Wandy Peralta and Matt Wisler. Manager David Bell said before the game that Monday's outing wouldn't be the sole determinant of who gets the spots. "I don't think that's the best way to make a decision," Bell said before the game. "That being said, it has come down to the last day, and that's because we're trying to make the best decision we possibly can, and it's a difficult one. You never want to make a decision based on one day."
Added 2:10 am (EST)
E. Suárez - 3B
Suarez hit his first homer of the spring in Monday's exhibition game against the Braves, Ben Weinrib of MLB.com reports. Suarez had been having a slow spring, hitting just .217/.294/.283 prior to the game.
Reds manager David Bell suggested that Suarez purposefully was seeing more pitches in earlier spring training at-bats in order to be more ready for the regular season. "He had a plan all along," Bell said. "He was trying to see more pitches early on and go deeper in the count and let the ball get a little deeper. It really paid off for him because his timing here over the last probably 10 days has been really good. It's nice to have some results too, so that's nice to see."
Added 1:54 am (EST)
L. Weaver - SP
Weaver (illness) allowed an unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings Monday against the White Sox.
Weaver returned to the mound without issue after missing his last scheduled start due to illness. He'll be ready to go for the start of the regular season after proving his health.
