Welcome back for another week of Daily Fantasy Fall Season Golf! It is just crazy to me that golf has now become a year round game for these PGA Tour players especially the ones on the lower end of the money list. The big timers can pick and choose the events they like but you get the real grinders on the course each week during this time of year. I'm feeling good after a great week down in Mexico and now the players head to Georgia this week for the RSM Classic at the Sea Island Golf Club.
This tournament used to be known as the McGladrey Classic is played on two courses at the Sea Island Golf Club. First, we have the "Seaside" course which measures out to just 7,005 yards from the championship tees for a par of 70 and then the "Plantation" course which is a Par 72 and that stretches out to just over 7000 yards. Both of these courses are played on really fast Bermuda grass and they are true ocean tracks on the southern tip of the island. Typical links style course with majestic ocean vistas, tidal creeks, dunes and salt marshes along the way. The players will play the "Plantation" course on Thursday and Friday before moving to the "Seaside" course for the weekend rounds.
Accuracy is the name of the game on these two tracks and that's the only way to have success. When you look at the history on these tracks, distance off the tee has been basically as useless stat over the years. Some golfers have bucked that trend but it has been few and far between. Of the 17 players that finished in the Top 10 last year, only two were consistent 300 yard hitters and of those two, Kevin Chappell, is actually a pretty accurate player for his length off the tee. Most of the successful players have good numbers in either Greens in Regulation (GIR) or Putting or even both. We will focus on players this week who have good form coming in, high GIR, solid short iron play and above average putters on tour. The short game will be vital to success this weekend at Sea Island.
Lets continue to roll with positive vibes as we head into the holiday season!
